We went to one like that but not near Fair Oaks. We went to a terrible pool at in Herndon too. It was small in the woods, the kids had to walk from their team area out into the parking lot and back in to the start. And the S&T and ref were married and she made some really bad calls and he just agreed with them. It was literally like a yes, dear agreement. It was a bizarre meet.

Arlington Forest is an amazing pool but it is a 10K sign up for membership fee and a 7-10 year waitlist.
Fort Myer is lovely, more like a club than a pool with real food you can order and lots of expensive fun activities paid for by DoD, but you have to be military or GS to join. Which is not too tough in this area. It is also Colonial League which arguably might be a plus in its favor.
I know nothing about Dominion Hills.
Arlington forest does not have a 10k membership fee- what a bizarre statement. Its currently 3600, of which you get 3375 back when you want to resign your membership and sell your share back to the club.

Meh. $4200 is a lot for a sign up fee for one summer. It is like they are pricing out people of color or poorer families. Nevermind, I looked at the team photo. They have one black kid and a couple of brown ones in that VERY large team. So their pricing is not discouraging diversity.

Sometimes you have no choice. If you want a pool it is the only pool in town. There are zero pools in Old Town and surrounding areas to join. So if you live there you have to go to ones that exist, which can not be so nice.
What wrong with Little Hunting Park or Mount Vernon Park? Both have large contingents of Old Town residents
They are pretty far down there and not super close. Mount Vernon is a BIG team. The B meet with Hollin Hills last year went on forever and ever.

May be naïve question but aren't pools/memberships determined by neighborhood location etc.? are do some pools allow people to become members/jump waiting list regardless of where they live (if they have kid who's great swimmer)?
Very few are dictated by geographical boundaries. Donaldson Run is the only one I know that has an actual boundary. Everyone else has a very long list, but I’ve heard that Overlee will allow jumping off the list with a very good swimmer. No idea if that is just unfounded rumor. The wait list for that pool is like a decade long.
Chesterbrook absolutely recruits.
Overlee recruits as well.
Overlee has an 8+ year wait list. Do you personally know someone (nor what you’ve heard) who has cut to the front of the line as a recruit? Because I sure don’t.

This just doesn't make sense. I'm at a D1 pool and wrote the comment. Most people at the D1 pools are totally normal. I know that's no fun. There are a core of loons. Not going to deny it. But there are also a solid group (I would say majority) of people just having a fun summer like normal people who really could give two craps about what division the pool swims in. In fact we all joke about the loons with each other.

Did not know that about Arlington Forest. 10k. Damn.
Dominion Hills is on Wilson Blvd right near Ashlawn. Small and fairly shabby facilities. Wait list is shorter but still 4-5 years. No big ticket price to get in though.
