There’s an infinite supply of people around here with ulterior motives

A big reason we sent our kids to private school was the sense of community and it still makes the kid smile when they see a car driving around with a bumper magnet from their school. I have a magnet from my home state too and my college (which is not elite). I like the community feel. But I wear T shirts/sweatshirts from my college as well from time to time.

Driving cross country or up to NH we often will see the magnet and always look to see if we know them.
I would never drive cross country but yes, I look for the magnets when we are at our second home on the Vineyard

Haha - I do have a giant white SUV. Because it was cheaper but still - I shake my head regularly looking at it.

Do you have a sticker for your kid’s school on your car?
Which school and why or why not?
We do because our children wanted to; we thought it was so naff to be almost subversive.
So it’s an ironic gesture.

Oh and camp drop off. DH puts magnet on for trip to and from out of state camp and DD loves spotting magnets on the way there. But they disappear at the end of the day. I am not really sure where they are on most days.
That seems like a lot of needless effort…very strange.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Nope. For security reasons. I also do not mention their schools on social media until they no longer attend it. I don’t wear labels most of the time either unless I can’t avoid it.
Same here....no bumper magnets and no social media references. Some of you have no idea of how many psycho's are in this area and how utterly dangerous it is to publicize such a huge piece of information about your family's life in this way. I keep things as private as possible from to minimize the threat from predators, pedophiles, possible revenge seekers, social climbers, green-eyed monsters, disgruntled colleagues/employees, road ragers and common everyday criminals. Having a GDS/STA/Maret magnet on your car makes you exponentially easier to find.
I actually had a parent from one child's school strike up a friendship with us and start pushing playdates between our kids (who were 2 grades apart btw) because she noticed the magnet on our car that identified our other child's school. I initially thought her interest was genuine, but as it turns out, she only wanted access to the other school community and was using us to get it. After our kids had a few playdates, she started inquiring about sporting/holiday/service events at our other child's school, and asking if she could attend some of them with us. After a while, she started asking probing questions about some of the families at the other school and thats when I realized she had ulterior motives and I stopped socializing with her.
The whole situation was so weird, but I've realized that people like her aren't the anomaly that I once thought they were, which is why I now keep a lot of things about my family/kids private.

Lmaof at how wonderful these people think they are, so desirable to criminals too.
They are after what you are driving, not your stupid sticker. And if you live in a 3 million neighbors it’s not like they are picking the house with the Sidwell sticker. The whole hood is wealthy. Give me a f@&$ing break.
I will not advertise the school, but I drive my Maserati and wear my Candian goose jacket and carry my LV purse. Lmaof

.
I’m safe in my Honda no matter what “elite” institution is advertised on the back of my car.
Erm. Whaaaa? Honda and Kia are the most carjacked cars.
