Woodward is supposed to have a magnet program when it opens. Regional, I think, maybe arts/performing arts? They were going to be building that out while the displaced Northwood population resided there for 2 years after completion of phase 1.

Nothing about a new magnet program has been decided.

The CIP reflects MCPS's plans. If MCPS's plans change, the CIP changes. The current CIP says, "To address the urgent space needs at Walter Johnson High School and the Downcounty Consortium high schools, an FY 2019 appropriation was approved for planning funds to reopen Charles W. Woodward High School." If MCPS changes that, it will mean that MCPS has changed its plans.

Yes, everyone knows that Woodward is needed urgently to help WJ and DCC overcrowding. No one is denying that.

It hardly means that entire Woodward has to be populated exclusively with WJ and DCC area. Some DCC kids can go to BCC and some BCC kids can go to Woodward. All of that will still be there to help WJ and DCC, but boundaries has very little to with it.

That is exactly what it means.

Capital expenditure is to address the urgent space needs at Walter Johnson High School and the Downcounty Consortium high schools.

How did you jump to conclusion that BCC boundaries won't change with that statement? To relive the overcrowding in DCC/WJ , boundaries needs to be changed. That means populating new school and that means changing adjacent boundaries and that means BCC as well. BCC does not need to be overcrowded for change in boundary.

There will be extra space in BCC if BCC kids move to WJ. Not sure why you don't think about it.

That's why we need comprehensive boundary change involving all adjacent schools.

It will be highly inefficient to try to fill a new school only from 1-2 other high schools. We need several small and some time big changes to make new boundaries efficient where no one has very long bus ride and we have an efficient use of space everywhere.

MCPS should do what's best for entire MCPS.

Yes, Woodward aim is to help WJ in overcrowding. But when doing the process, it's best to look at all adjacent boundaries to come up with something which does not involve long bus ride and also create diverse schools. That means diverse schools as much as possible in as many schools without having long bus rides. BCC, Churchill etc may not have overcrowding, but all boundaries should be looked at same time. That may mean shifting school population in Churchill. Whitman, BCC, WJ, DCC , Wootton, RM ....

It will be criminal for BOE to not do what's best for entire student population and simply listen to nonsense like Woodward is for WJ.

This is the best time to do widescale boundary change. Current set of parent getting angry should never be a reason to not do what's best for next 30 years.

due to fiscal constraints, the County Council, in the adopted
FY2023-2028 CIP, delayed this project one year. The additional
