In the 80s and even 90s, there was still enough fur around. Particularly for my grandmother's generation where it was expected for upper middle class women to have a fur coat. But it was already fading away and these days I just never see fur except possibly someone getting out their long deceased mother's fur coat for Christmas Eve services because somehow that is the one exception. Otherwise no sign of it "coming back." I live in an affluent area and just never see fur any more. It's all polar fleeces and puffy and quilted jackets. That winters have become milder probably does play a role.

You cannot be serious, right? Do you think anyone cares about your eye-rolling? You can roll them as long as you want, to the point they fall out of the orbits. I only care about being warm in cold weather. The good thing about my friends we don't judge each other and we come from all sorts of backgrounds (different races, different countries, and different religions). I feel sad for you if this is how you form your friendships.

Here is how to tell the difference: Get up REAL close then part the fur and look at it just like at your hairline. If it's real fur when you part it, you will see that at the bottom of that is leather or skin. So go ahead and start rooting through! Careful though – you may get smacked as most people don’t appreciate this.

NP, I lived, traveled, and shopped in Europe for 8 years. There was lots of faux fur. You can not tell the difference with high quality faux fur just by seeing it.
From a distance - no. Up close - yes, absolutely, if you know what to look for.
