I haven't the slightest idea about BC but surely you know that BC fails? I have 2 nieces that were the result of failed BC.


I don't think BC implemented by women who REALLY don't want to become pregnant fails often. I also do not believe that "prohibiting" dating or sex is effective birth control.

There are 2 types of parents - those who understand their kids are growing up and yes are dating at 14/15 and those who stick their heads in the sand.

Too immature, yes, but I do think it's important to practice and get some experience. Limited experience with dating leads college students and young adults to move too fast or settle too quick for the first person that comes along.

Definitely get your child on BC and normalize condom use.

Cool story. I also happen to know of girls that got pregnant in high school and they generally tended to be the kids of parents who either took no interest in their lives and let them do whatever they wanted, or were extremely rigid and and religious and never had conversations with their kids about dating and sex so they were sneaking around and having sex with their boyfriends in cars or other places. But keep thinking that allowing your 14 year old to invite a girl he likes to hang out at your house in a common area is going to lead to pregnancy.

I'm beginning to realize that there are various households with different lifestyles and means on this thread. Some lifestyles more easily support this "fun."

Not religious at all. Just really academic focused so we all got into great state schools/Ivies. I suspect most kids on good academic paths don’t date in high school. I would rather my child focus on academics and getting into a good college to prep for their future than end up depressed and/or pregnant at 16.

Depends what you mean by dating.

I was in sixth grade when my friends starting going on first “dates.” People played spin the bottle and 7 minutes in heaven in middle school. Plenty of people had boyfriends by the time we started 9th grade. Of these, many fewer were having sex. I knew one girl who was not a virgin at 13. I considered her gross. By 14/15 most girls are getting interest and a boyfriend by 15/16 is totally normal.
