Instead of those 2 - we will listen to 2 patriotic songs on the 24th! I think the other songs passed the censorship.
That's really really obnoxious. Did someone actually complain or did the administration just decide this on their own?
Reminds me of the time our whole International Day Fair was canceled, after the teachers and students put tons of time into it, because the poster that went out to parents had some clipart of kids on it and the kids appeared to have "white features," and some parent complained and accused the principal of racism. The parent in question? Blond, blue-eyed, as white as you can get. And the people most negatively affected? All the non-white families who had been planning displays, dance routines, etc.

Why didn't any Daddas....for the love of goodness shut it.
I have no affiliation with this school but am now following this thread for amusement. Most dads probably don’t care it was cancelled and were happy to not sit through this on a work night. - Vienna mom at a different school who understands the Vienna mom stereotype and also would not mind if any of our concerts were cancelled.
So callous. It doesn’t bother you that many kids would have prepared for and anticipated it, perhaps had people traveling in to see it, and would be disappointed by a last-minute cancellation for no given reason? A PP posted something similar above about their child.
Or wait, your kid is a loser who is only into video games. Now I get it.

2. I asked my children’s teachers and all of them said they didn’t know why it was cancelled and
3. The admin should give a reason why without having to ask, they are being obtuse and vague on purpose
4. If a parent complained, even if they were right, there were other ways to handle it than cancelling (postponing/postponing with the intent to cancel/postponing with the intent to revamp/whatever) the whole performance
Or maybe, they really aren’t allowed to say why the concert was postponed. Maybe the chorus teacher got COVID or had a medical emergency or death in the family or something else that is none of your business and protected by their right to privacy.
Maybe there was a social media against the school or the concert (definitely has happened to my kids school) or an elevated threat level for some reason, and it isn’t being announced while investigated.
Maybe there was serious disciplinary, bullying, harassment, etc among the kids issue at the daytime concert and it needs to be investigated and dealt with.
And I could go on, because my kids have been in FCPS for years and BTDT (at schools considered by DCUM to be “excellent” BTW).
Not only are you not entitled to an answer in circumstances like this Karen, privacy or security concerns would prevent it.
Go find a real problem.
DP. Usually some explanation would be given for postponing a school concert, however vague. You're just knee-jerk attacking.
Really— please tell us what you would say about the director having COVID (that respects his legal right not to have an illness disclosed), or a security threat (that the FBI okays and doesn’t panic the school) or a disciplinary issue (that doesn’t become a 20 page thread on DCUM of people saying things like “my kid say Larla said Jews are going to hell” before the situation was even investigated.
Especially since Flint Hill Mommy’s are apparently the most histrionic, gossipy Karens in FCPS.
The baffling questions here are why people care so much (that the reason isn’t given. I get why they care the concert was postponed). And do you have any real problems?
Buckle up. If this makes you this angry, you will never survive 13 years in FCPS where, yes, sometimes things are cancelled and you don’t get to know why, or you aren’t told until later. Where you get emails like “we are aware of the recent social media threats against the school and are working with the FBI…”— and you have no idea what the threat is, but your kid heard…(scary), you get news of a lockdown, but no reason, and where some Admins are just poor communicators.
Get back to me when your kid texts that the schools locked down and she doesn’t know why. And the email you get two hours later explains it as a “possible threat”.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Question for OP- was your child singing only Christmas songs? Curious if rumor true what was found too Christmas. Our school had performance but no mention of Christmas- songs included couple for Hanukkah, 1 for Festival of Lights, 1 for world peace and 2 for winter- no songs mentioned Santa or Jesus/Mary.
Not OP, but a Hanukkah song was missing. The rumor is that that was the reason for the cancellation.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Can we all just acknowledge that Christmas isn’t about Jesus anymore and get back to celebrating Christmas?
Buddhist families, agnostic families, many Jewish families and some Muslim families celebrate Christmas because the recognize the tree and Santa aren’t about Jesus. It is at this point secular. It is about Capitalism, buying presents and giving presents. Most retailers rely on Christmas to keep going.
Let’s decouple Christianity and Santa and celebrate capitalism and have a holiday that brings us (the United States) together across the entire religious spectrum in the name of spending and giving.
faithful Muslims do not celebrate Christmas. Saying you are Muslim doesn’t make you a Muslim.
I wrote the above and I am sure you are right. But that is also kind of my point. We should call it Santa Day keep the tree and the lights and presents and not have faith involved at all. It would establish a common holiday in the US that is built around our "greatest" resource: capitalism. Faith has little to do with the way American's celebrate Christmas at this point. Look around you at the inflatables, the lights, the sales and see what we are really valuing. I am saying it is time to move away from the Christians who took over a pagan holiday and claim the fact that this celebration is about providing lights, gifts and money around the darkest time of year. There has been a separation for years. It is time for the divorce. Santa Day is about snow (we rarely see) gift giving and decor. I realize it will take a long time to get people to this point, but the ball is already rolling in that direction...

Yup. And person spreading Right Wing scare propaganda to the dumb by claiming “my child said.”
"my child said"? "fake news"?
Dear Flint Hill Families,
We apologize for the extremely short notice, but we regrettably must postpone our Winter Concert for this evening.
We will send an update once we have solidified plans to reschedule in the New Year. The students should be very proud of their hard work, and we look forward to seeing them perform again soon.
Sincerely,
Flint Hill Administration
Thank you for posting the email, OP is such a little witch for not mentioning the part about rescheduling. Sounds like a right wing plant to me.
