Personally, I think the admission rate range anywhere from 56% to 68% found online (depending on the source) seems rather high. I wouldn't be surprised if it's lower than 50% now.

VT’s admissions have become more competitive in recent years with last year catching some guidance counselors off guard. There are certain programs that are considered easier to get into, but engineering, business (namely undecided-business), and other programs continue to be very competitive. Especially engineering.

We are fortunate that Virginia has so many colleges and universities with programs, sizes, and locations that will be the right fit for so many of our students. Instead of knocking down schools and programs, we should be celebrating our opportunities.

DP. You are correct. Absolute BS. Go look at all the high stats kids whose parents posted here and in college confidential about results during the last three years. Over and over high stats TJ kids were deferred or waitlisted or rejected. Some of the posts were tear-jerking because their kid wanted engineering and the parents couldn’t afford private or eve OSS engineering - the only great option in the Commonwealth had been closed to them and they had no alternative

Typically, the bottom 20-25% of the TJ grads even bother applying to VT. It is shameful to attend VT as a TJ grad.

Not a troll. My DC graduated from TJ several years ago and I volunteered at TJ for many years so I know. Mostly the bottom kids apply to VT and few average TJ kids apply to VT as a safety.

Do you know how many applied to VT and how many accepted from TJ?

Usually about 110 apply about 90 are accepted and about 8-15 attend.

My son had 1500 SAT and 3.9 GPA and was waitlisted for engineering at VT.

YOu are way out of touch. A lot of TJ parents can afford only Virginia Tech. And Tech's reputation has soared in just the last few years. Go look at the SCHEV statisticss
