When mine got about those ages, we changed to
Something you need,
Something to read,
Something to wear,
Something to share.
And a want.
I still got stocking items and maybe a surprise or two, but it certainly simplified things. They actually really liked the concept.
(Not an original idea- I read it elsewhere)

In addition to the gift cards, you could do

— meaningful heirloom gift (like your old jewelry, a special book that has always been in the family)
— secondhand books, since you mentioned they like to read (you can easily get several books for $10)
— items you would have bought for them anyway (my kids sometimes ask for things like new backpack, shoes)
— food gifts, like snacks to go with the book
— nostalgia gift (something small that reminds them of past holidays or traditions)

Photo cards and the cost of stamps you’re looking at $200 or more. I’d you’re feeling pinched financially, spend that money on your kids or save it. Skip the cards this year.

Just chiming in that I would love a NY card with pictures from your travels!

No need to send a NY card. People will not think badly of you.

Give your kids gift cards to local spots like the ice cream shop, a local cafe/coffee shop or give them gift card to have a shopping spree to buy whatever they want from Target. Then, just let your kids purchase a new video game and call it a day.
