You do understand that only the final grade is sent to colleges, right? The interim grades are as they’ve always been informative for the student, parents and teachers. Now you have to understand how to interpret those iterim grades because they were calculated different when parents went to school. Sheesh.
This is for middle school. Why would a middle school need a rolling grade book?
To prepare for high school - this is the same reason that middle school has block scheduling.
And pretty soon, rolling grade book and block scheduling will be pushed down to elementary school too, to prepare the students.
None of this makes any sense.

The grades for the quarter are for the student - the psychological effect is for the benefit of the student. Why do we want to take that away? Because...why?

Ummm...becsuse the grade they are reporting to you 3 times prior to the final is your PROGRESS toward the final grade that you are ultimately trying to obtain.
The "quarter" reports are PROGRESS REPORTS. They are "year-to-date" grade reports.

Think of quarterly grades as "CUMULATIVE" grades. Every reporting period is a CUMULATIVE grade... on the way toward the end of the year (i.e. final) grade. They report the progress in Nov., Feb, and April... but it is showing the progress toward the final grade.
