The rule of law really hangs by a thread in places like that. So much of white Christian America has only every really paid lip service to the Constitution. It’s an old boys club and a theocracy.

Are we talking current Afghan (read: taliban) law?
Any reason why any country should abide by Taliban law?
This is tricky, right?
It’s not exactly the traditional islamaphobia, white savior privilege, right?
I’m all for orphans being raised by loving family members. I think ethnicity, culture and religion matter. But see the slippery slope? Should orphans only be placed with people who look like them?
Personally, I don’t think any civilized country should abide by the laws of the Taliban. YMMV.

You didn't read the article. This is a progressive Afghan family - the father ran a co-ed school. Do you know how rare that is?
It's not that rare. Hazaras are progressive.

In each case you have white Evangelicals trying to increase the supply of "adoptable" infants in order to feed their dominionist fantasies.
While Handmaid's Tale is dystopian, it's things like this and people like this that make me believe we could fall into that kind of situation under the same circumstances.

Because being raised by right-wing, uber conservative, evangelical Christians, who went to Liberty for undergrad and for law school, who claim all muslims are terrorists and think all afghanis raise their daughters to be either 1) suicide bombers, 2) child soldiers or 3) sex slaves is better. Versus being raised by your cousin and his wife, in America, surrounded by your culture, language, family.
GTFOH with your bigotry.
