It ended up hardly hitting Tampa. DeSantis repeatedly said that there was a lot more uncertainty for this one than is typical for hurricanes and that we all had to watch closely for any changes.

I will never understand why the barrier islands weren't evacuated. This is a horrible, horrible tragedy.
Sure these are trump’s supporters. You know the election was stolen, covid is fake, the covid vaccine has trackers in it, Fox News viewers, etc etc. The common theme- don’t trust the government, don’t trust science, global climate change is fake, liberals(anyone who disagrees with you) are wrong. Now you think these same people are going to listen to an evacuation order? That would go against their cult’s teachings.
Look, I am as angry about Republicans as everyone else. But yes evacuation orders make a difference.
The governor of the state is a covid denier. Why would republican comply with an evacuation order? The government can’t tell them what to do. Can’t force them out of their homes.
Jesus Christ, what is wrong with you. Nobody is "forced" anywhere but issuing evacuation orders tells people in the community that the situation is urgent and potentially very dangerous. They don't have to leave. But go read all the accounts of people who say they weren't given sufficient warning about how bad this storm could be, where they live - and didn't have enough time to make a plan and get out. The evacuation order was issued 24 hours from when the storm hit instead of three days before, which is when the models started showing that Ian could hit this area.
The local officials didn't follow the plan they had in place. And little Ron DeSantis didn't encourage people in this area to leave, either, until it was too late. They failed. People died. You can be as angry about COVID as you want but NO ONE wants to die in a hurricane like this. Some people still may not leave - but more people would have.
Lol you trumpist are all like. You did not want to evacuate because the government told you to evacuate. Now you want the government to come and give you free things. Let’s see how many republikans stand by their statements about government spending and give aways fueling inflation when it come to hurricane rebuilding.
