I abated completely while watching the despicable behavior of christians over the Trump years and pandemic. As a whole, they are willing to stand up only for unborn fetuses and nothing or no one else. Nothing Godly about them and lest anyone suggest I'm lumping them all together, you're darn right. Show me a single one with the courage to stand up publicly and denounce the evil the larger group has embraced.
Christians have destroyed christianity.
Even if there was to be a Rapture, God would not be in any hurry to come get this crop of believers.
Plenty of Christians stood up to Trump. Start with Sojourners—many are even evangelical. Pass through all the really liberal churches in this area, and if you don’t want to believe they exist, then why are conservatives always complaining about liberalism in the pulpit?
Your ignorance is no excuse for your your bigotry.
There certainly are liberal Christians (I am one) and liberal congregations (I attend one), but come on. Like the bulk of Christianity hasn’t been overrun with right wing whack jobs? It has.
As to why they’re always complaining about politics in the pulpit: every conservative accusation is a confession. Evangelicals and Catholics went all in for Trump, by huge margins.
Exactly
We are on to politics here but I have commented before that the Republicans have done a great job at infiltrating religion and people vote on a single ticket item and that is abortion. That’s the only reason why many Evangelicals vote R.

Struck a nerve? If you believe this, you are just as dangerous as a Trump supporter and live in an extremely small bubble.

+1 Plus I've watched Evangelicals do this to themselves once a decade my whole life. I remember a classmate weeping about why wouldn't I just "be saved" so I could avoid burning in a lake of fire for all eternity when the Rapture was sure to come on . . . Y2K. The world is full of people with this dramatic, fatalistic worldview that thrives on the feeling of impending doom, and it's clear by the way they keep falling for it that it's something they don't care to learn from it.
As a fellow Catholic, I agree. I mostly grew up in Catholic or areligious circles but I will never forget when I started working for a southern Republican congressman in my 20s and his daughter kept asking me if I was saved. I literally felt like, “I guess time will tell, so I do not even understand the premise of your question. It is a big pet of the reason I am NOT encouraging my kids to go to school down South. There are so many odd (to Catholic) beliefs of old-school Protestants that just float around in everyday life but can be really jarring if you are not used to it or, even worse, attempt to scratch a little bit beneath the surface. Another example is this cooking show I watch and the Southern host keeps telling me to “Bless it,” ie bless the food after we make it. I kept wondering about why I have a problem with this and finally I realized, “We cannot bless anything.
Only God can. Why is this host telling US to bless the food? We can THANK God for giving US the food?” Just a lot of theological differences in everyday life!

It's going to hurt but we will survive.
