Statistics should not just look at deaths but anyone hit even if they live, serious car accidents, etc. I drive to work daily and have two kids to drop off at school every day. It's witnessing constant horrific driving that results in near misses. It's annoying, it's concerning. A child biking in my neighborhood was slammed into on video by a driver who sped through a stop and never stopped after hitting the child. Kid was fine, so that doesn't count in the stats. I see drivers like that EVERY day on my drive to and from work. Lack of any enforcement for drivers like that makes me want to vote out the entire DC council. It also makes me want more cameras only if DC will have a better enforcement strategy to hold people accountable.

Funny how there's no safety requirements imposed on cyclists. I saw someone on an ebike the other day, with a small child in his lap. Neither was wearing helmets and they cut off a city bus. The bus had to slam on its breaks to avoid hitting them.

When bicyclists start annoying me more than cars, Ill let you know, but my daily drive to work involves cursing daily at an average of 2-3 drivers and 0.001 cyclists. My DH bikes for exercise but we agreed he won't bike on major DC streets because of how awful the drivers are, sticks to Anacostia trail only.

Probably because there's only 300 or so people in the entire city who use the bike lanes. There's a half million cars here.

This is the strange thing about Vision Zero. It's aimed at something that rarely happens in the first place and because it's trying to prevent something that barely ever happens, it's highly unlikely to be successful.

Traffic deaths in DC are a little bit like plane crashes or being attacked by a shark. When one happens, everyone hears about it. But that doesnt change the fact that they are statistically rare. There are more than 1 million people in DC during the day. If 24 people are killed each year on D.C. rounds, that's out of hundreds of millions of trips. Statistically, that's not that different than the three people in D.C. who have been killed this year by lightning.

That's literally 8 times as much!

There's been a million studies all showing black drivers are far more likely to be ticketed by cameras. Some cities have dropped cameras because of it.

Once again, ignoring that black pedestrians are far more likely die in traffic deaths, to be struck/killed pedestrians. Let's focus on the people dying here and how to prevent that.

Has there been a single black pedestrian who has died this year in a traffic accident? Traffic deaths are quite rare in Washington D.C.
