My husband actually got into both but picked NU because he wanted to (and did) major in a very specific field of engineering for which NU had a better program.

NU's co-op program is better established than Cornell's so if that's something you're interested in, I'd pick NU.

Recommend looking beyond statistics and how impressed your neighbors would be when considering colleges. Both colleges have excellent faculties and engaged students. Doing well - and being involved at any of them - would look good in the workplace. Go visit the schools and have your child imagine what their life might look like on campus - and why they might like it. (Which, by the way, would be a nice thing to include in their personal statement for that college.)
