My ils are obsessed with what dh and I do with our money so it would be a cold day in hell before we shared anything with them.

We have a lot of money saved but they tell people we are close to bankruptcy. Mil is angry she isn't in control of our finances and our lives. We are retirement age and this has gone on since we got married. We are very financially knowledgeable, are very conservative financially, have a good financial advisor, have very little debt, and make a lot of money that we don't spend.

They are not the sweet, kind grandparent type. They recently modified their son's will the day he died to steal assets from their own grandchild. They don't need the money and their grandchild does. The amount is a pittance to them.

Not all mils/grandparents are good people.
