We asked our boys ecnl coach and he said ODP not worth the money and time. We also noticed that the families with top players and also those who already had older kids go through ECNL or MLSN did not do it. I asked three college coaches and they said they did not care about ODP selection or honors. They felt the talent was watered down -- but they said it used to be huge. I suppose if you're not ECNL or MLSN or training 3-4 days a week it might be good if you can afford it and your family can do the driving.

I had great experiences playing ODP but they need more coaches accessing talent across the board....personally to this day thinking back I never met my match at any camp, but I did learn a few things that regional coaches tried with our practice sessions that stick out.....I would highly suggest ODP just make sure your good, dye your hair bright green and be a ball hog!!!!!

I played ODP growing up, went to camp after camp after camp. I do feel like there are a lot of politics mixed in and favoritism which clouds unbiased judgement for the coaches that are selecting the pool for the next morning. I believe this comes from not paying enough attention to states with less population than others and paying more attention to states/players/clubs/ relations personally with coaches etc. Or who made the regional team last year, instead of a level playing field for all.

Of course. But unless you can magically round up full pickup teams for kids who like to play a lot, what is the problem for families that can afford it?

My kids play with friends after school a few days a week, and still want more.


Is the ODP an off-season activity?

Just a quick note, those claiming that "top talent" doesn't play ODP, as it pertains to girls, is full of it. ECNL is strong in the east, but relatively weak in other regions. You just have to look at ODP alums at D1 schools or the national team. It's another notch on the resume. Some of the top talent in some states plays ODP where ECNL is weak, you get to compete against those girls if you're on an ODP team.
