You are OK with people who haven't eaten for two days (or longer) being received and processed by Texas, but not by DC? 3,400 is a drop in the pan compared to what Texas handles on a daily basis. Why don't you get on out there and set up sandwiches and soup reception, like the Poles did for the Ukrainians?

My guess is many of them took the free transportation and will continue to where they planned to go or had always planned to stay in DC. How many people just hop in a very long bus ride to another random [place just because the bus is free.

This is the landlord for the retail spaces at Union Station. If you study there track record everywhere, you will see that they are never going to be part of the solution.

People on drugs or with mental illness are a really hard problem.

Buses full of legal migrants from Texas are not a safety threat and they’re easy to help. They need a hot meal, probably a place to stay in many cases or help getting to where they’re going.

The two problems are light years apart.

I believe the pp was referring to prior to them arriving at the governor's state. As in why should that state have to handle all the costs?

They arrived legally and are in the US legally. And they're probably thrilled to get out of Texas - I know the first buses, at least, were full of volunteers. There are many humanitarian issues with the situation but they're not here illegally.

Curious… why do you think they’re here legally? The articles I’ve read don’t spell it out but lots suggest these were people “caught” crossing the border. Doesn’t sound like there here legally.

It's been widely reported that these are asylum seekers and others with legitimate claims under immigration law, but who still need to do more to stay here permanently / may ultimately be deported. They present themselves at the border, not sneak in. Here's just one article:

Because Abbott cannot force people to take the buses, they are all volunteers trying to get somewhere, usually to stay with family. The DMV may be their destination or a waypoint.

I don't mean this in a snide way but the idea that an R governor would release people into the US who have no legal right to be here, is nuts. It would be political suicide, as well as outside his authority since Feds control immigration.

Every citizen has a right to feel safe, that's why taxpayer pay for government and other services.
