My BIL loves G&Ts -- not even a headache thing that's just his drink of choice. Before they come over I make sure I have tonic water, his fav gin brand and nice fresh limes. And I text my SIL to see what she would like bc she doesn't have a signature cocktail like he does.
That's called being a considerate, caring hostess.

We had a Memorial Day barbecue weekend last night and she brought a thermos of her own premixed gin and tonic. She says wine and beer give her a headache. Wouldn't you just not drink in this case, instead of BYO to a family gathering where it isn't offered?? I wonder about saying something to my brother just to check in. Like why would you travel with your own booze thermos??!
I think it’s weird your family hasn’t accommodated her tastes. I can’t imagine not having what makes my SIL feel included available for her. Especially if it’s as simple as gin & tonic.

Ha, I don’t drink and I do this. Well, I don’t bring G & T, although sometimes I bring AF G & T, but I make myself delicious mocktails. Most people have sucky AF options and I’m not drinking plain water or seltzer when everyone else is having delicious beer and wine. So I come packing my own. If I’m with a group of jerks, I’d use an excuse like SIL. If I’m with normal human beings, I just tell them what I brought. Sometimes I bring extra so people can try how great AF options can be, without the hangover.

Does your friend need a travel companion? She/he sounds like she knows how to make a road trip fun.
+1
I mean, no kidding.
