2 burritos and guac from Chipotle is now $30.
+1 I can pretty much afford to spend whatever I want or need to spend, and last night I still learned a financial lesson. I had been at the hospital late, was driving home and realized I was starving.
I stopped at Subway for a footlong, a soda, chips and a cookie. It was over $20. That seems like an astounding amount to me. I could have made the same sandwich in my kitchen for less than $5.
I'm glad I stopped at Subway because the sandwich was great and I was about ready to pass out from hunger, but I can certainly see how not everyone could afford that amount even once in a while let alone all the time.
Over $20!!! That's crazy!

Gas is pushing $5 dollars a gallon. My vehicle gets 16 mpg.
I have a smaller vehicle but can’t move out a dorm room or take five people with luggage

My suv gets a lot less than that. Why the hate.
Because if you CHOSE to drive a gas guzzling behemoth, whining about how expensive gas is is absurd.
Gas was probably cheap when they bought it. I'm not sure anyone expected gas to essentially double in price over a couple of years. Sure, yes, we should all be buying more efficient cars - but that was a moral dictate, not an economic one, until pretty recently. And it's not exactly easy to go get a new car right now, in case you haven't noticed.

At the end of the day I only spending $40 dollars more a month on gas? Maybe its time to start paying people a living wage. I just don't understand how folks on Facebook are staying home and not going on when they are "working" full tine...

What are 2 people getting at five guys for 50? The large fries is 1300 calories. A shake is 600. Is each person eating 3000 calories? Check out Whole Foods, they have frozen grass fed patties 4 pack for 8 dollars. Grass fed is much healthier and no need to eat two patties unless you lift heavy weights daily.

Gas prices affect food prices because of the transporation cost. If gas prices go down 20 percent, the food prices will decrease a bit or the corporations will make more profit. Not sure what will happen with the shrinkflation products (example, a package of cookies that was 32 ounces is now 24 ounces for the same price). Will the company increase the size back to previous size or decrease the price of the shrinked packages?

Right on. Cooking at home is so much cheaper now compared to restaurants. I used to get large orders of take out around 60-80 dollars total 4 to 6 times a month, for years. In the past 6 months, only did about 8 orders total, and probably will cut that in half going forward. Spending more for groceries and at Costco.

There is tension between those groups. It is not 1% vs 99%. It is 20% vs next 20% and on down the line.
Third, some costs hit us harder than others not from a financial perspective but like a kick in the gut. Gas is one because we do it every week. The price is going a lot higher -- be ready. But it is more a head issue than a wallet issue for gas. If a road trip would take $200 more you are to going to go? While not nothing, that should not make the difference. Back in the old days if the hotel was $20 a night more than you planned would you not go? What if it was a wedding and you were in the party and needed to rent a tux. Say no?
All three of these things are combining and making people uneasy. There is nothing to be done but wait this out but that is a lot for most people to deal with at one time.

Is op working from home and saving on gas while the rest of us are commuting? If so, op, you probably have anywhere from $25-75 a week more than the rest of us putting on pants and going to work.
