Well, we all know what happens when one ASSumes. Why would I be in opposition to new families being added to Langley? There's a development being built on Rt. 7/Towlston which will be 100+ houses when finished. Those kids will all be zoned to Langley. As long as there's space available, the more the merrier.

Have you looked at what has been submitted to the county for the rezoning? I have, and it seems as many of the units will use the existing hotels footprint. The number of units the developers are proposing is the same # of rooms the hotel had. So yes. Very small. And while I know that you think that you are being very cute with your comment re an old SRO hotel, many urban areas are changing their zoning to allow for more micro-apartments and condos, because of the dire need of affordable housing everywhere.

That is the million dollar question. The obsession is real. Langley would be fine absorbing any new families - but what these posters refuse to acknowledge is that it's the SCHOOL BOARD who makes the ultimate boundary decisions. They need to lobby the SB, but instead they just rant and rave on an anonymous website.

Moving kids around by race and income for “equity” is silly.

It’s not because of equity it’s bc of space. It’s the only school in the vicinity that can take additional students. Further Overcrowding schools in the area bc Langley is 2 more miles further out is BS. And the way it works now, kids way further out than 5 miles “get bused” to attend Langley. And why is it called getting bused only when poor kids do it?

I already said it could make sense for capacity. Go bit at someone else about the definition of “busing” because I didn’t bring that up. If Marshall is overcrowded and a nearby school has space, of course the board should look at it.

Though I wonder if they wouldn’t just move more of McLean to Langley and then some of Marshall to McLean.

But, current boundaries being what they are a move from Marshall to McLean might be the least complicated

Langley is the furthest away.

Closest - Marshall (by far)
2nd - Madison
3rd - Mclean
4th Langley

You would have these kids get on a bus and pass two high schools to get to their school?

Marshall is at capacity already, you’d be creating an attendance island at Madison, and McLean is one of the most overcrowded schools in FCPS.

They should use the capacity where it’s available and right now that’s Langley. How do you think Great Falls ended up at Langley when it’s closer to Herndon and South Lakes.

Ask Omeish or the retired Pat Hynes, they’ll tell you it’s due to racism.

Well, they are wrong. It was because Herndon was overcrowded in the mid-90s and Langley had space, just like it does now. But if they could move areas in Great Falls almost in Loudoun to Langley they can sure as hell move 500 new apartments in Tysons less than 1/2 the distance to Langley there.
