Things aren't worse. People just *feel* like they're worse. And, by the way, as someone who lived through 1992 when crime was nearly twice as bad, even that wasn't some kind of urban hellscape.
It was, where I was living. Crime is so much better now, I think it's moved more to the poor rural areas, and there are more mass shootings.
I think the US will continue to devolve into a third world country, with huge gaps between the rich and poor, uninsured and insured, climate challenged and wealthy enough to move --unless there is a major progressive revolution of some sort. Unfortunately, we won't even be like the UK, as we don't have enough social support.
