No we’re not. We are being realistic and living in reality. OP thinks that DC prices are like Indianapolis or some other small major city. Even 10 years ago, you couldn’t get what OP wants inside the beltway.

No, people were not buying new houses on close-in half acre lots 10-20 years ago because even back then that didn’t exist in the DC area.

I like this one a lot but clearly what makes it cool is not the size of its own lot, it’s all the wooded land it backs up to.

So, to clarify: You CAN afford things. So it's not true that you "can't afford jack." It just means you can't get what you want to pay for.

You can find a cheaper house that fits your budget. I'm sorry it won't be as grand as perhaps you envisioned, but you CAN find it. This is what most people do -- adjust their expectations.
