No, I grew up in McLean, and my parents owned a place there since the early 80s. It's a miserable place to live and grow up. Really, nobody desires to live in McLean for the quality of life. Maybe they aspire because they *think* it's an affluent place, but it's really just a depressing sh!thole.
I grew up in nova and yeah I don’t recall anyone ever dreaming of wanting to do anything but leave here. Most of my local friends who grew up here have moved out of this area.
I would dream of moving to Peru or Iceland or something. Not some lame DC suburb like Arlington or McLean LOL.

People who have been out priced of Arlington and live in Baltimore or Fredericksburg or spotsylvania and work near Arlington do dream of living in Arlington or nearby. Not everyone is rolling in it.

Nope. Do you know anyone who lives in Baltimore or Fredericksburg because they want to? Alexandria Springfield and Arlington are close to the majority of the government jobs that most of the DC area has.

People want to move closer to jobs, people, good schools, neighborhoods, etc. Baltimore and frednecksburg doesn't have that.

A lot of people rent in Mclean so their kids can go to the schools and grow up with connected friends. Then they move when the kids are grown to a cheaper place.

Very few places have among the highest concentration of expensive homes in a metropolitan region, are situated between two major jobs centers, have the top two public neighborhood high schools in their state and their state’s top private school, have the best shopping in their region, and are close to multiple Metro stations and two major airports.

Mclean has good schools and easy access to DC and Tysons.
Mclean has almost no walkability and most stores are still in strip malls. Also for 90% of Mclean have to drive and park to take metro.
It’s a true suburb all around.

Not a per square foot basis, but the median sales price for a SFH in FCC is a good bit lower than the median sales price for a SFH in McLean and about the same as in North Arlington.
i.e. not cheaper. I doubt OP is looking for a 6000+ sq ft McMansion.
For a regular 3-4.5k house, no price difference between the three. But FCC’s inventory is very limited.
FCC is smaller and cheaper.
