There is no discord. Muslims don’t care. I am one of the Muslims that posted on Arlington Education Matters. Most mosques in the area go with the fiqh council of North America which determines eid via calculations. Those calculations determine Eid years snd decades in advance. https://fiqhcouncil.org/calendar/
Most Muslims in the area will follow their local mosques. Many recent immigrants including me may end up following what their country of origin does. But either way it doesn’t matter because Eid is a three day holiday. If we get one day off whether it’s a Monday or Tuesday we will be happy. Most Muslims I spoke to we’re wondering how APS came up with Tuesday (because the in advance calculation method says it’s a Monday but were happy they were getting a day off for eid. By the way even for Muslims who follow their country of origin, most likely the start of eid will be the same as the start of eid in the calculation method. It’s just that most countries won’t announce the eid holiday in advance and so people who follow their country of origin usually will know a day in advance.

Asking for 90% of Loudoun County.
More like 98%. Dumb the day is off in the first place
Dwali makes sense, Eid doesn’t at all.

You're absolutely right.
At the next board meeting I will propose an adjustment to the school holiday calendar.
Winter break will now run December 26-Jan 2.
Spring break should honestly be later in March like colleges have it, not around Easter. Let's aim for mid to late march.
Thanksgiving is a trash holiday based on STDs and genocide, so we'll cancel that one altogether. Fall break will now happen at the beginning of November.
George Washington was a slave owner, so obviously, his bday is out. No more day off.
We'll keep October 11th but only after thorough vetting. If our spies find out you've called it 'Columbus Day' within the last 5 years, you AND your kid have to attend school that day.
MLK Jr. Day - keep it

This is such a tiresome argument. No matter how much you hate it, most people in the US celebrarte Christmas, which is also a legal holiday. If I lived in a majority-Muslim country, I would expect no school on Eid but school on Christmas. That’s how it works.
The fact that they want to remove a secular, federal holiday from the school calendar because Christian's celebrate is just more proof that they want public schools to favor their religion over others. These new holidays on the calendar are religious holidays and serve no other purpose than benefitting followers of that religion.
And maintaining staffing. Look at your schools, not just teachers, I’d bet a good number are Muslim. It’s hard to have a school day when you have a significant number of bus drivers, cafeteria workers, extended day staff, assistants and teachers taking the day off.

Really? So all the sudden this year those holidays have had staffing shortages and student absences? Doesn't seem that way in reality.
