I eat about 1/4 of what I cook. It’s probably 1 cup cooked. I store the extra with toppings (dash maple syrup, cinnamon, fruit, nuts). The leftover oats and topping can be reheated for anyone in the family, or myself, on other mornings.
So again, for me 1/4 cup dry is a serving. Or about 1 cup cooked.
I wanted to answer you further OP, I think you should eat as much or as little as you want. A change of 1/4 cup more or less isn’t going to make or break you. Eat enough to carry you to lunch. That’s the goal. If you ate 2 tbsp like your friend, you may not make it to lunch and eat convenience snacks. Eat it all if it helps you get it the next meal.
