What I like about Tide powder is that it comes in a cardboard box that might break down someday. Liquid detergents come in thick plastic containers that will be around for hundreds of years, then break down into microplastics that enter the food chain and human bodies. Now we have a washer that requires liquid detergent, so I bought a big bottle of Tide liquid. When it's empty I'm going to take it to the zero waste store to refill with their liquid laundry detergent. We already do this for shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and castille soap for hand soap dispensers and house cleaning. I hope I like the detergent.

Nope. The house stunk (there were 8 of them) and that garbage causes asthma flare ups and headaches. MIL used to use Gain. One night sleeping on those sheets and I was sick.

The effect all of that scented crap can have is underestimated.

Same thing with Scentsy and the like.

Unscented detergent (any brand)

Bleach--once in a while

Vinegar--once in a while

No dryer sheets

Ear doc said to avoid dryer sheets due to the chemicals. They cause clogged ear passages and nasal issues.

Free and Clear in whatever brand the grocery store has when I need it new. Oxyclean for stubborn stains on kids clothes. I’m scent sensitive though and sometimes my skin acts up so it’s just easier to stick to hypoallergenic stuff. No fabric softener for me.

Unscented Tide and dryer sheets. Sometimes unscented fabric softener.

Those scent beads are disgusting along with Gain, Persil, etc.

That’s not true. Unscented Tide is the same as regular Tide but without perfume. The scent is just…well, scent.

Sorry, all those natural or unscented laundry detergent don’t have as many (or any) enzymes that break down stains or body oils like regular Tide or Persil. I’d rather have my clothes smell faintly of Persil than BO. Yuck.

39. I don’t think regular Tide and Downey are overwhelming. I do think Gain is too much though… and I don’t like the Scentables or Febreze-type stuff either.

Vinegar for the rinse, wool balls in the dryer.

When this battle comes up I think it’s partly about strong aversions to perfumes and also about strong aversions to bad smells or perceived “dirt.” I would much, much rather smell an occasional musty towel than sheets that smell like Gain.

I use Downy to try and mask the smell of Tide when my DH buys the wrong bottle. I hate the smell of Tide.
