Like a PP said, there are a lot of black people in Tampa proper but they’re mostly poor or lower class. And people have certain opinions because of that. In the suburbs, it’s mostly white.

Floridians wouldn’t call Wesley chapel Tampa though. It’s quite far and nothing really out there.

Tampa has a lot of young professionals bc it's cheaper than the Miami area and still very vibrant, good beaches not far. The old downtown part is very pretty.

Tampa, itself, is diverse. You might like Seminole Heights, that is an older historic neighborhood close in that has a lot of young families and families of all kinds. Wesley Chapel is probably mostly white, but people move there from all over (it's a newer area) so there is undoubtedly other interracial families.

Tampa, itself, is diverse. You might like Seminole Heights, that is an older historic neighborhood close in that has a lot of young families and families of all kinds. Wesley Chapel is probably mostly white, but people move there from all over (it's a newer area) so there is undoubtedly other interracial families.

Tampa has a lot of lower income blacks. Most of the suburbs skew pretty white, but it’s a pretty liberal city. I doubt there’s any overt racism but I can’t speak to microaggressions or feeling outsider syndrome or anything.

The 5 largest ethnic groups in Tampa, FL are White (Non-Hispanic) (44.1%), Black or African American (Non-Hispanic) (20.6%), White (Hispanic) (10.9%), Two+

There are a lot of African Americans working on the base. The professional African American athletes live on Harbor Island and we would see them around town.

I think Wesley Chapel skews white although people live there and work on the base.

I'm from Tampa, moved up here for a promotion 4 years ago and while I don't hate it up here I'd go. Ack in a heartbeat if I could maintain the same quality of life up here.

Thankfully we held on to our home down there Paid 160k back in 2015 2 other units in that row of Townhomes have sold for 410.

Oddly enough we can't afford anything up here nor could we afford our house if we were in the market today.

My ILs are trying to sell their place in a Tampa suburb, and it's been sitting. I don't know the market, so maybe they overpriced it, but they're working with an agent.

I like it there, it's a nice enough city and the Clearwater/St Pete beaches are great (although a bit of a drive if you live in Tampa proper). However, at least in my ILs' neighborhood, it's all Trumpers. Personally I couldn't handle it. They seem nice enough but a couple of beers at the cookout and all of a sudden they're spewing conspiracy theories


Obviously I can't speak to your in laws' situation. But where I live in St Pete it's very blue, and houses still seem to be selling quickly and for more than you would expect. I hope your ILs can sell their place - can't be fun wondering if you missed the moment.
