Are you cold waiting for class to start? Jog in place. Put on a layer.

I don't even understand what kind of person has the nerve to turn OFF the fan in summer. Yes we're indoors, but it's still hotter than usual, and many of us are in between workouts.

There is a woman in a particular class at my gym who keeps doing this.

Before class, people are setting up. She turns off the fan.

Someone turns it back on.

She walks over and turns the switch off.

Someone else turns it back on.

EVERY SINGLE TIME. SAME DAMN WOMAN.

I don't understand, if you're that cold bring a sweatshirt. She's not even working out very hard - which I would not otherwise judge, but if you're not warm from working out, you either work harder or bring a sweater.

Wow. Did nobody say anything to her? Instructor should have intervened after the second time

I did this regularly when there was a mask mandate which presumably makes it harder to smell these gaseous episodes.

You can buy an elliptical and install it in your home for you to enjoy and fart freely.

You need to rest appropriately between sets if you're lifting heavy. You want to make sure you're focused on doing reps with good form rather than trying to get a cardio workout, which is why you need rest. It may take me 15+ minutes to do 4 sets while doing squats. MYOB.

No. Decent people allows others to work in during rests. You purposely make that hard when you sit on the equipment, scrolling on your phone.

It is not practical to share a squat rack usually. It only really makes sense if the person who wants to work in is about the same height and lifts about the same weight as the one squatting. Almost any other equipment, particularly machines where weight gets adjusted just by moving the pin, is much easier to share and at least in my gym people generally agree to it if you ask. Even if you initially have to interrupt their scrolling session to ask.

I don't see these issues at Equinox gym in Tyson Corner

- STOP taking cell phone calls at the gym. A quick 30 second appointment confirmation call? That's fine. A long conversation? Take your call, but walk away and take it outside or in the lobby. Or call them back later. Don't be rude to those around you -- we can hear your conversation even with the volume all the way up on our earbuds.

- STOP leaving your hairballs or shedding everywhere. Jesus, just find a trash can.

- STOP leaving your trash on the machines. Wipes, wrappers, masks... it's nasty. Toddlers shouldn't be at the gym. Adults pick up after themselves.

I'm astounded at the people who don't understand these very basic, very reasonable matters of courtesy.

These are great rules for public transportation too.

Wait, what? I am a shedder too, but how is your hair falling out on the gym floor? Isn't it all knotted /tied up?

Yes!! Seriously. In fact, leave the phone in the locker. The ten minutes between reps isn’t doing you much good.

First, I track my lifting through an app on my phone and, second, plenty of programs require longer rest between sets (not reps).

If you are resting that long between sets and not letting others work in, you are an absolute jerk.
