I love the Lenny Bruce character but the whole season was extremely disappointing. Nothing really happened. Just a rehash of old stuff (except the relationship with Lenny Bruce).

Midge speaking at the Kennedy fund raiser was absolutely ridiculous and completely out of character for Midge. She should have felt enormous guilt and shame.

And, for God’s sake, are we going to see every single actor ever on Gilmore Girls?!

Midge and Lenny Bruce--I had been waiting for this to happen and poof there was zero chemistry between the two of them. I don't know the whole thing just didn't seem to be right. I like them better as friends. Damn he is hot--not the real Lenny Bruce. This guy doesn't look anything like him but Luke Kirby is so cute.

Interesting. During one of the scenes with Joel and Mei, I turned to my husband and said “I feel like we’re watching a mediocre off-Broadway play.” Something about the dialogue, the way they were acting, even the blocking and the way they move. So I totally get what you’re saying. But for me, I notice it most in all the scenes in Joel’s apartment this season.

NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN HERE. ABE WAS SAYING INCRIMINATING THINGS AND THE LAWYER RUSHED HIM OUT SO HE WOULDN'T HEAR MORE AND SMOOTH IT OVER LIKE IT WAS JUST JOKING AROUND OR WHATEVER. IT FURTHERED THE STORY BECAUSE HE WAS SO MAD HE WAS WILLING TO RAT HIM OUT TO THE FBI.

Same thing with Joel's mom making sure he would be at his club on Friday so obviously she could set him up...and nothing comes of that? We already knew she was trying to set him up. Couldn't Joel have a conversation with his girlfriend about that without needing the unnecessary call from Joel's mom about another set up - which precipitated Joel's conversation with Mei.

You're probably right, but I'll finish it out. Too much is unnecessary and, frankly, stupid. This week's examples: the friend typing fast with the dad timing her and the minute the dad said her name wrong, Midge in the other room yelled out her correct name; the whole scene with the mom visiting the compound of the rich guy...and having the rich guy's girls come to the apartment - it all went no where after the meeting at the restaurant (also stupid.) I think the writing and loud voices and immediate talking the minute one character finishes is more like a play from the 50s and that is how the show comes across...like I'm watching a play.


PP here. I think these are all fair points.

I thought the rich guy’s daughters showed up at the strip club to celebrate one of them getting married, and now the other two came to the apartment to see Rose, and recognized Midge from the club? And the fallout will be in an upcoming episode? Anyway, I agree that the show has jumped the shark. The stuff you mentioned, like the scene with Imogene, is just more harping on Abe’s and Midge’s personalities. But like you I’m sticking with it, having come this far. My wife gave up seasons ago.

You...couldn't figure out what scene was about despite them telling you on the show? She was down on Lavender Lane trying to get closeted gay men who hung around down there picking each other up discreetly to tell her where lesbians go to have a good time together. That's it. That's the scene. It's also what she and Susie said when they were sitting in said club.

And it fits with the parents’ characters - who raised a daughter attending the prissy camp, embracing traditional roles, living somewhere with a maid, having just come off time living with their kid’s in-laws, having mom overhear her daughter on the phone securing credit with multiple places, having the mom overhear her daughter tell her screaming kid he needs to eat toast, and having raised a prissy kid…that when he realized it needed money, he got a job without verifying the pay and when he realized the pay, he stayed at the job. Wow. Realistic AND hilarious.

I find Mei unpleasant and there is nothing about her that is endearing. Actually, she sounds like a dolled-up version of Susie; we already have someone with that personality; we don't need another.

Re Midge, this season she's doing a lot of stomping around with an angry face.

I watched it. I find Mei really irritating and think her character is written very inconsistently. She is completely insecure this season which is nothing like how she was previously portrayed. Wonder how her pregnancy storyline will play out (which is of course the same storyline for Joel as Christopher in Gilmore girls.) the show made a point to say she is interviewing for a medical residency in Chicago, which could be an out.
