The way kids and people in general in the US dress for work and for school is atrocious. They just don’t care anymore and as a society this attitude shows up on so many levels. I wish people cared more about their appearance. You don’t need to spend a lot of money looking good and pulled together. Caring about your clothes, makeup, hair and hygiene just makes you more credible to people and inspires confidence and send a message of respect and that you care about the image you put out to the world, and the world in general.

It is none of your business how other kids dress. Worry about your own kid and get a new hobby.

At my kid’s school, SOME dress this way…but some don’t…some of the girls are really into fashion and so they like to dress unique …skirts, wide legged pants/bell bottoms, hip hugger jeans, plus the baggy jeans are still popular, corduroys, athletic leggings are still worn by some. It’s really a mix. Definitely girls who wear pajama bottoms and those are different girls who wear sweats. It’s all very interesting to hear about & see.

Much better than the awful uniform many high school students in DC have to wear. It makes them look like they're going to work at Walmart.

Firs, that's a staged shot. Second, it's a private school, with a required uniform. You surele don't think those kids *choose* those outfits, do you? The clothes look clean and it looks like your average high school. I see nothing wrong with it.

They are teens. Most of them just want to wear what everyone else is wearing. We had a "uniform" of levi's and clogs one year...every single day the same. Once the majority signs on, the uniform sticks around for a while.

Unfortunately..I think low rise jeans will be making another appearance as the uniform soon as they fan out from urban centers. So enjoy those sweatpants while they last.

Wow. Judge much Karen? My kid actually likes jeans to go with a long sleeve shirt and hoodie, often a college hoodie. And Allbirds or Uggs. Sometimes wears dark joggers. Same with her friends, including a couple at TJ. 34 ACT, 12APs and admired ED to WM. She’s fine looking like a 17 year old. She doesn’t need your approval.

+1 The majority of the kids in my DC's magnet class wear sweatpants/sweatshirts, and sometimes jeans. These are kids with SAT scores of 1500+. My DC very much cares about their grades. Doesn't want to see a B even on the interim report cards, and I'm not a pushy tiger parent. That's all DC. Also, DC does in fact care about "looks", but this is the fashion now a days. Go to gap.com > teens - you will see models in joggers.

I’ve loved sweatpants since college in the early 90s. Finally fashion has caught up to me😀

I went to private school with a dress code, not a uniform- sweats would not qualify. I do recall public school girls wearing mens boxers to school.

Kids call jeans “hard pants.” They are not considered fashionable or comfortable.
