I am considering an appeal to have both boys at CAP. Blair is the home school.

Kennedy is off the radar for dcurbanmom but it's a great school with a very strong and enthusiastic staff. In year two of the regional IB and it is challenging and fun. Kennedy has had a regular non-application IB program for years, so teaching IB courses in 11th and 12th isn't new. What is new is the cohort. It's a small group of dedicated kids and ours seems happy there. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer.

We too just got an email telling us that the ParentVue status was an error, and our kid is actually invited. I wonder how many people this happened to.

The point of the IB is that there is no difference. Possibly some schools offer more HL choices than others, or different SL electives but that's also subject to interest. The core programs are the same.

The programs are very similar, and they have to pass x # of IB tests to get the diploma. Other than that, difference would be the peer group.

don't know about that, but the IB diploma rate is pretty high at RMIB, still. There are some good teachers, and some not so great teachers.

Definitely low for IB.

I am really surprised on the MAP-R score of 248 getting into magnet. I know there are several 5th graders who score around 250 +/- 5 now a days. Is this a different MAP R?

PP said DC got into Blair with MAP-M 293, MAP-R 248. It makes sense that they look at MAP-M more because of the math/science curriculum. DC could also be in-boundary.

Hang on, does in-boundary make a difference? We’re in boundary for Blair (for next year, just gathering info)

Yeah, I really hope this was a one-way error and that there weren’t people who were told they were invited on ParentVue but really weren’t. That would be awful.

I can not answer the first question, but for the second, yes, there is a specific quota for home school kids in RMIB magnet.

Is this happening again?! A few years ago MCPS sent a letter to *everyone who applied* to a CES program that told them they were all on the waitlist. Then they had to re-send letters saying oops, actually you were not invited. DCUM figured out the mistake that time before MCPS did.

I don't have a documents section. Child is coming from a parochial K-8 school so we made an acct just for the high school application. Hmmm.
