Taking your kids to see a Disney movie is an activity you do to entertain your kids. I don't understand how doing that causes you "psychic pain" unless your expectations are extremely out of whack

I love animated movies and I’m over age 10. I don’t even remember any of the songs from Moana. But there are many beloved songs from other Disney and non-Disney movies.

The reprise of How Far I'll Go is right up there for me in the absolute best disney songs of all time. I would not put You're Welcome there but more like, Under the Sea etc, strong secondary songs.

I disagree with your analysis though, because (1) Greg is a follower who just adopts other people's taste, this is one of the defining aspects of his personality, so he "likes" Hamilton in the same way he "likes" that crazy expensive watch Kendall tricked him into buying -- because someone told him to, and (2) the idea that you conclude Tom must actually like Hamilton but is pretending not to, while also explaining to Greg that the great thing about this dumb fasicst meeting is that you can stop pretending to like Hamilton, is so convoluted as to be nonsensical.

It's just a funny line from a funny show. There are lots of people who don't like Hamilton, or just don't care about it either way. But because Hamilton has become an avatar for being woke or anti-racist (for some reason? I actually think LMM's decision to just glide right over the fact that all these people owned slaves and then cast POC in the roles might not be that useful in the long run for forcing people to contend with founding principles of this country but anyway). It's a joke about that. I'm not a fasciest and wouldn't go to a far-right rich person party. But I would love to go to a party where it would be okay to say "Huh, Hamilton is not my thing" and not have people assume I'm a fascist. So the line was funny to me.

I really feel like you Moana haters have to give us some insight into what did not speak to you. I literally feel like it is a modern masterpiece, and I don't expect everyone to have the same opinion of course but I am struggling to imagine what would inspire actual visceral dislike in that movie.

A modern masterpiece? Maybe I need to try to re-watch it. I mean - I really really didn't like it, but if someone honestly thinks that it's THAT good, I probably owe it another viewing.

(I don't like musicals where the PLOT stands still for the characters to sing a song. I didn't like the setting. The big fat guy who sings the stupid thank you song was irritating. I didn't like the relationship between the girl and her dad. The water as a character was eyerolling (like the ice was in Frozen - also so so so SO hard to sit through for me). I am just not a fan of musicals, and Moana was like a musical for musical lovers, it seemed).

Interesting take.I think you’re right, We don’t talk about Bruno is brilliant from a technical point of view - multiple voices entering and exiting, layering etc....crescendoing.... but it doesn’t move me emotionally at all. Not the way Joni Mitchell’s Both sides now or River, or even Frozen’s Let it go.
It’s the same with rap - it’s cool but I don’t feel anything.

So I hear you OP! I also didn’t love Hamilton. Saw it once and that was enough. But I have seen Wicked 5 times now in London, NYC, Toronto. And I would see it again.

I find "It's Quiet Uptown" incredibly emotional. Plenty of other parts of "Hamilton" moved me, too, but that song is just devastating.
