Now, I know the drivers cannot pay attention to the road and police the kids who don't wear a mask on the bus. But, by federal law, every kid/adult who steps onto any bus (school bus or otherwise) is REQUIRED to have a mask on.
I imagine a lot of kids in those districts that don't require masks to have a faux mask when they step on the bus and then take it off for the ride. But, that is not legal per DOT.

They won’t end it before the end of the school year (with FCPS), the majority teachers want it through the current surge and FCPS is so conservative they’ll just extend it to June.

Anonymous wrote:My question is: when does masking the kids ever end? Kids are more likely to die in a car crash than of covid, vaccines are available. Breathing slimy, dirty air trapped in the mask is also unhealthy! It’s enough, there is no off ramp. After Omricon, there will, of course, be another variant. It’s past time for normalcy.
Anonymous wrote:This thread is talking about not ending the mask mandate when our numbers are this high. In a few months, things will look drastically different. This isn’t just about kids/staff getting covid. It is also about not overwhelming hospitals. If a parent cannot see why a mask mandate shouldn’t end during this time, I really have no words.
+1 at least make sure this surge is over.Anonymous wrote:If he is going to make a No Mask Mandate in schools, it would be smart of him to make it “effective” in March / Spring.

I feel that it is significantly harming my son with ASD in regards to his social development. Plus, we (and so many others) are all wearing these stupid, 1- or 2-ply cotton masks that do absolutely nothing. Vaccination is the key! We all caught Covid over winter break, and our bodies were perfectly primed to fight it. My brother, a pediatric ER doc, got it first and spread it around to everyone. We were sick with sniffles and sore throat, we recovered, and we moved on.
Instead of fighting the mask fight, let's fight the vaccination fight. Let's require vaccinations for airplane/train travel, for going into bars/gyms/restaurants, for going into work. Oh wait, we're not allowed to do that... no vaccine mandate. But we can force our highly vaccinated corner of the country to wear masks for years, even though it didn't stop the Omicron surge and our Fairfax hospitals are nowhere near at capacity. Thousands of people in Fairfax caught Covid over this past month. The vast, vast, vast majority were sick and got better. Let's celebrate vaccines and get rid of the mask mandate.
I think a lot of people don’t realize this.

Mine are 10 and 14. They do not complain at all about wearing them indoors. My neighbors don’t seem to have an issue with their kids doing so either. IRL I do not know any kids who are champing at the but to be unmasked.
I do. But why cant your kids wear a quality mask and mine not wear one? One way masking works. So, your kids are “protected” and others can make their own choices. The degree to which we’ve allowed an infringement on liberties is appalling. We don’t even have the data to support it.
Okay. People also forget that there are children in FCPS buildings with severe medical needs that cannot mask already or who can mask but have underlying conditions. You are saying that your child has rights but so do the other kids. They have a right to a safe learning environment.
You need to get your kid vaccinated and booster and they need to wear a N95. You eventually have to stop making my vaccinated kid mask in school.
You missed the part where there are severely medically fragile kids who cannot mask due to SN.
You can't make everyone mask forever for that.
Why not?

When the weather improves then I will unmask. Seriously as a teacher with high risk family members I'm not sure I will continue teaching if everyone unmasks next week. If I do it will be very hard to treat families and children who chose to unmask the same way I do others. Think if it like going to the doctor while a minority or obese- you get treated differently. Obesity and racial status aren't as easy to control either.
Ps- would never say this irl, but it is the truth. It will be very difficult for all of us as teachers to treat your kid the same. I'll guess I will just make a table of you in the back of the room far far away from me.
Great, They probably don't want to be near you anyway!
Whatever. Sure they don't want to be near me, but are damaged from not seeing my face.Your illogical thinking is definitely an issue.
Given that you'd made it clear you'll ostracize kids that don't agree with your opinion, its obvious learning isn't the priority in your classroom. Hope your poor students have a better teacher next year.
I have not a care in the world if you think my teaching is good this year or if you think I am good teacher- you are some crazy person online to me. I do care about keeping my high risk family members safe.
