We moved back to a small town. No one really talks about politics. Most people vote. But politics isn’t the center of our world like it was in DC. I rarely hear anyone mention it. I have no idea how most people voted. We have an LGTBQ family member. Openly gay. No one cares. Our schools are open. No threats to close. Masks are not required anywhere, although many people choose to wear them. Most people are vaccinated. But, there is a lot of skepticism on the effectiveness.

We talk about family, travel, sports, weather, ……. Politics just doesn’t come up. I’m a very liberal dem living in what is a fairly conservative area. I’ve never felt uncomfortable.

The only real downside is lack of diversity. This is the whitest place I’ve ever lived. I don’t think I would have wanted to raise my kids here simply because of that.

Well, I got myself on a local republican list at some point because I did some business with a conservative church, and now I get all kinds of crazy stuff. They do in fact solicit people to do this.

- fantastic schools
- proximity to outdoors and beaches

Why would any teacher put up with that terrible pay and bad conditions is beyond me. Hey, Texas teachers! Move to the better paying districts near Chicago. We are desperate for teachers, your max pay will be between 90K-140K depending where you teach and your degree, you won't cover recess or lunch and you'll be in a union.

Some fresh blood in these conservative small towns is a nice balance. They can favor some conservative values (genuine ones like family values; not "family" values of GOP) as well as schools being open and general weakness of the teacher union (why are they so bad? making all unions look bad), not have to deal with wokeness BS. But they are also infusing smarts, tolerance, science, education, WEALTH, yes wealth into the community and the schools and that can make a difference, if they don't get subsumed. Turn these areas blue! But in a good way.
