NP. It clearly isn't more of a threat to kids. But what I am worried about is kids bringing it home to the rest of the household, some percentage of whom will get at least moderateiy ill and some percentage of whom are ninnies who think "I might have Covid" is a good use of the ER, thus causing an onslaught for already burned-out healthcare workers. Who are getting sick, calling out, or quitting all over the country at unsustainable rates that affect the whole system and leave non-Covid patients up a creek with substandard care or canceled procedures. Is hoping that maybe we could exercise some judgment about not sending the whole school system into Covid soup to all get sick at once so onerous and misguided? This will burn through in a few weeks anyway. I really feel like we're almost at the end of this; omicron is going to massively build up the native immunity along with vaccines and successive variants are going to be more nothingburgers. We just have to not be total uncaring morons for another few weeks. There's a middle ground somewhere between the overcautiousness of last year and the wanton recklessness of now and we haven't found it.
Ok, but if you’re that worried about your kids brining Covid home from the Covid soup you describe, you should t send them back in two weeks either. You’ll need to keep them home another two weeks after that because that’s when it would burn through the schools. Clueing for two weeks just puts off the inevitable.
I have to admit, with an essential worker spouse who worked in person throughout the pandemic, I have a hard time relating to people who view schools as the riskiest thing out there.

No, MCPS is a mess. Other parts of the country have successfully (eg Florida) kept schools open throughout this pandemic.
I’m fine sending my kid to school and we are yellow. If you are concerned, you probably should try to sign up for Virtual. So many kids have already had Covid or have it now. Same with teachers.
School is important for kids.

Everyone should have seen this coming and lined up other arrangements if you have two parents working outside the home. This is a bad as unprepared people panicking trying to find rapid tests on Christmas Eve rather than a month before.
This is the kind of dismissive post that makes your contribution irrelevant. There are no arrangements to be had. If you don't have family in the area, you have no options.

No kidding. Especially kids who are in younger grades where that in-person learning makes an enormous difference. The learning gap from the last year is not going to close itself by itself and many parents work jobs they don’t allow indefinite time off / work from home. DCUM posters need to wake up and check their privilege. There’s an entire generation of kids who will be hurt by closed schools.

That, too, but MCPS has pretty much gone on record as saying they don't give a damn about childcare or kids who will be left home alone because of these closures. Perhaps providers like KAH and Bar-T will come to the rescue again?

I'm very unhappy with MCPS's response (in the opposite direction of most people here). But a perfect response from MCPS would make about a 5% difference in outcomes, if I'm being generous. With 70% of outcomes determined literally by COVID biology and 25% by a better federal response.
Plus, a perfect MCPS response would have almost as many detractors as this terrible one.
