DH's mom left his family around the holidays so he really didn't like Christmas at all when we started dating. I love it. I've chipped away at him (mostly with alcohol-themed Advent calendars) and now that we have a kid he tries to buy into the magic more. We buy the tree and decorate it and the gingerbread house together. He buys for his family; I buy for mine. I buy 90% of kid's presents, and if assembly is required we either do it together or he does it alone. I do all the cooking for Christmas dinner; he handles cleanup. (But in our house, he does all the cooking for Thanksgiving and I clean up, so this is more than fair.) When we have done holiday cards I handle, but that's because I like the idea of them and he doesn't really care. Even still, I don't like the idea enough to actually do it every year.

On balance I do a little more at Christmas time, but I care more, I genuinely like Christmas time, and he's appreciative and thanked me this year when he saw how excited DD got about her presents. I have no complaints except that I don't know how to hire someone in DC to put up lights on the house, and I don't want to ask DH to do it because we have a very tall house and it's a big ask for someone who doesn't care if we have lights up.

Wow, I'm so thankful for my big law partner DH. He does all the outdoor decorating (wreaths on windows, lights), all meal planning, buys all event tickets, makes all dinner rsvps, and makes a master calendar. He sets up the bar and does majority of cooking (we had 3 small gatherings). He helps kids buy gifts for each other and me, and will do that wrapping. We all buy tree and decorate together. He gets down all the Christmas boxes. I buy all the kids gifts and stocking stuffers, and same for our moms (though this year he did buy additional gifts for both moms and a few stocking stuffers). He does most of the grocery shopping. I do all appetizers, some side dishes, and most of the cleaning (including getting bedrooms together for guests), and holiday cards. I take down everything inside, while he takes down everything outside. We're a good team. It's always been this way at Christmas, probably because we both love the holiday. In day-to-day it was really lopsided for years, but now it looks similar to this.
