In the case of DC, it's not Republicans. It's merely about who advocates for extended school closures. There are differing degrees of Democrats.

And who “advocates” for that? No one.

But then who will these “concerned parents” vote for?

Oh, and nobody "supports" school closings.

There's a hundred thousand kids in DC schools. Those kids have a couple hundred thousand parents and grandparents. How many people voted in the last off-year mayoral primary? Maybe 60,000? It won't take many pissed off parents to throw everyone out.

And we already know school closures are going to be a huge issue because they've been a huge issue in basically every election so far this year.

There aren’t as many closet Rs in DC.

And there aren’t as many dumb a$$ people willing to believe GOP propaganda.

Parents have a right to be angry about how long schools were closed in D.C., and angry people vote.

Back to DC....aside from the Mayor, who else is up for reelection this cycle?

Don’t know who’s on the ballot? Sounds like an external agitator..

DP. I didn’t realize that local politics was supposed to be solely the province of some campus activist group. Agitators? LOL.

You seem not to understand that people don’t pay a lot of attention to local politics until they feel they have a reason to do so. This person seems to be motivated to vote because of COVID restrictions and more power to them.

Just saying that PP needs to work on a more convincing “concerned parent”.

LOL, oh you kids are funny. Go have a look at any of the school forums and see the constant discussions of school closures. I find it amusing that the local politics forum on a website devoted to parents often overlooks the political issues of parents.

LOL. You think DCUM “often overlooks the political issues of parents”?

New here?

Question is: were they just voting out of spite? Or do they think the D candidates will push for policies to address the underlying issues?

Voting for Youngkin because you are mad at local D school boards for something that happened last year isn’t rational. Northam (D) already mandated in-person instruction. Youngkin can’t change local school boards.

Yup. Irrational voters are the reason we have Youngkin.

Yes, keep up the name calling. What do voters know about their own lives? You know best! This attitude is why D’s lost so much ground this fall and will continue to nationally.

A vote driven by anger is by definition irrational.

So voters angry about the financial crisis in 2007 were irrational. Or about Supreme Court picks? They’re all crazed, or just when it works against your team?

Yes, any vote driven by emotions is irrational.

A rational approach would be to evaluate candidates based on positions/policies and vote based on that.

Not just out of spite.

Maybe we could get some sort of check at the voting booth to ensure people are rational before voting?

You’re an adult who decides how to use your vote. It’s up to you to make informed, rational decisions.

Of course, you can vote out of spite if you want. But don’t get upset if people call you out on it. It was your choice.

It’s so dumb right? I’m angry about injustice, therefore my vote is irrational!

Let’s say you‘re angry because some random local D politician did something unjust last year. Local D prosecutor came down extra hard on a group of black kids. So then, out of spite, you voted for the R governor - even though nothing he can say/do will change what happened with that local politician.

Yeah, that’s irrational.
