A few too many time warps to keep track of some things.

I disagree. I think they kept it very clear. Year zero and Year 20 being the main focus between episodes, with some 2 yr and 4 year thrown in mid-late series.

Those were clearly marked but not all the flashbacks were. I prefer a storyline that’s straight forward. I don’t need another English Patient.

If you can’t figure out that scenes with Kirsten as an 8 year old are in the past and scenes when she’s an adult are in the present, I don’t know who’s to help you.
Different poster who just started it and finished the 2nd episode. So, Kirsten is 8 when it started. And then on Episode 2 it says year 20, which would make her 28, right? It confused me because in those scenes where she's traveling with the Symphony she looks really young to me, like early 20's. She doesn't look like she's approaching 30. Or am I not calculating this correctly?

The actress who plays adult Kirsten is 34.

Love episode 7. Even saw it on one critic’s list of best tv episodes from the past year.

This was my favorite episode.

The English Patient was terrible, I agree. But a linear narrative is very basic, not many things beyond YA books and children's stories rely on it.

A linear story is almost every story. Stop trying to insult people.

No, a linear story is not almost every story, sorry.

Actually ALMOST every story is linear.

My husband thought it reminded him of The OA. I can see it, for the similar vibe of “I don’t necessarily understand what’s happening, but I’m enjoying watching it happen.” I also thought of Giri/Haji, in the sense that the plot was almost secondary to watching well-crafted characters interact. So, guess I’m looking for “watching people’s journeys and connection” shows, more than any specific type of plot line?

Beforeigners also on HBO

I just watched the first episode and I’m intrigued. Never read the book.
