Clearly, you’ve never paid attention to him. He’s the antithesis of that dry ass Terry McAuliffe.

I’m not in love with Harris leading a ticket, and I don’t doubt that the racist and homophobic will balk and do what they do.

That said, Pete is pretty damn impressive and exceptional. Try to actually listen to him; see what he’s about behind a white male in a a suit.

[Black Buttigieg supporter]

+1. I find that he's able to cut through the talking point BS when being interviewed. It's very refreshing. And if people want to go after him for being gay, well, go ahead. It worked really well in the '80's/'90's.

Because you won't look at the articles.

I'll agree there isn't "going all in" happening yet, but there's plenty of gossip and talk.

That these kinds of articles and talk is surfacing so early in Biden's tenure does not bode well for the Democrats, regardless of what happens.

The Democrats do have a problem. Biden is old. His health is not the best. Only fools deny that Biden clearly has some age-related issues. One could forgive Biden's age if he was mentally sharp and in front of the camera taking questions daily and clearly in charge, but none of these things are applicable to him. He clearly has good spells and he clearly has bad spells where he's firmly hidden from sight and events cancelled. And the problem with being old is that these kinds of health issues tend to worsen over time. It's certainly a factor behind his collapse in support among independents.

But the problem is compounded by that there is no apparent heir in waiting. Harris is a goner. Dead on arrival. Her polling shows this very clearly. A Harris versus Trump is a Reagan landslide for Trump. But what can the Democrats do? Harris is a delicate topic, she was chosen for identity politics but she's failing and with it the implication that identity politics only promotes the mediocre and untalented hacks over better qualified people. But if they try to maneuver her onto the SC as a compensation, there will be fury from the voters who will see straight through it.

Buttigieg is garnering attention because he ticks a few identity politics boxes (gay!) and is from the professional establishment that is extremely loyal to the Democrats and a major source of funding. But unfortunately Buttigieg versus Trump will also result in a Reagan landslide victory - for Trump.

Who else in the picture? Where are the dark horses. Now, they do exist. And there is time. But regardless of who the future candidate is, it is an ominous sign that these kinds of talks are already happening so early in Biden's administration.

+1,000
A lot of what is it at issue is that the Democrats have refused to learn. Biden is a hold-over from a failed Dem establishment and Harris and Buttigieg are just lipstick (idpol+PMC resume games) on that same establishment pig.

Given all the apoplexy about Trump and co., I’d have expected some serious soul searching. The lack of soul searching suggests to me that the Democrats are almost entirely about their small world, not about anything high-minded.

I like mayor Pete, but most POC aren't voting for a gay person at this point in time.

That's the worst ticket in existence. What is SIPA thinking? They want to sink Harris. You can't tie a completely untried and unskilled Mayor from a small town in Indian to a junior U.S. Senator who is a woman and a minority.

Stop f**ing with our ticket losers. Biden won with Harris. Biden won with Obama. Find a senior statesman that compliments Harris and move on.

Normally. Biden just handed him a ton of money and a huge platform in the infrastructure bill.

HW Bush passed the "Goals 2000" bill and Clinton passed "No Child Left Behind", but you didn't see their education secretaries running for president. They both claimed to be "the education presidents".

No Child Left Behind was Bush 43.

Anonymous wrote:1. In the abstract, no one would think a mayor from South Bend, Indiana is a plausible presidential contender.

2. There was nothing remarkable about his mayorship to change that.

3. Despite that, he tried to run for president anyway. He lost.

4. As a direct result of his loss, he was given a cabinet post.

5. No one actually trusted him with an especially important cabinet post, so they gave him Transportation. Presidents have felt comfortable giving the Secretary of Transportation position to members of the opposing political party (Obama, Dubya) or politicians’ spouses (Bob Dole’s wife and Mitch McConnell’s wife have both held the position).

6. Despite his position’s obscurity, Pete has attracted outsized national attention. And not because he’s crushing it, but because he’s getting blamed for stuff. Sure, you can dispute whether that’s fair or not. But no one wanted it to play out this way.

7. Ultimately, you’re left with a guy who lacks the conventional qualifications about whom the best you can say is “c’mon, that criticism is unfair.” That’s not a recipe for winning the presidency.

But he's got every single hallmark of professional Democrat's ideal Presidential candidate:
1. Credentials/elite resume: Harvard, Rhodes, McKinsey
2. Identity politics: he's gay AND married to a dude.
3. Acting: he's more interested in 'sounding like a President' than he is in facing our problems.

4. Military service. Which you worship in Tulsi.

You're making it up that I worship Tulsi. But she was wildly better at earning the respect of military members and families than Pete was. Everyone who actually understands the military gets that Pete, like Hunter Biden, used the DCO program, well known as a gimme to the politically connected+ambitious, to get his position.

Yet again, Pete's supporters show themselves to be delusional.

I don’t think it’s the homophobia that bother minorities. I think that it’s that he went from mayor to presidential candidate without putting in the work. How many POC mayors would be take seriously at the national level.

Zero.

If booker launched a potus campaign after being Newark mayor (which is 100x harder than South bend) he would’ve flamed out.

Booker’s POTUS campaign did flame out despite his being a senator. So did Harris’s. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Per Ballotpedia, here is the list of Democratic Party candidates for president whose campaigns did worse than Mayor Pete. If your candidate of choice flamed out where Pete succeeded, you can't blame it on him being a white man or gay or whatever. Almost nobody has what it takes to run a successful Presidential campaign regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, experience -- whatever. Ultimately, even Pete was able to win only one state and keep competitive in a couple more before throwing in the towel.

You should have posted who Pete's big $$$ donors were. That's what really at issue. And that list is almost certainly shorter than the one you took the time to post.
