I call BS. The MSRP on 2021 AWD XLE is $41K+. If you bought the car in VA, you would have had to pay approx $33,000 + tax, title, fees. There is no way you got a $8,000 discount off MSRP right now, unless you forgot to mention a trade in or downpayment.

I'm in the market and just want to know where. Highlanders are one of the cars that we're looking at and getting anything more than a token amount off of MSRP seems hard right now.

Me too, OP. The car market is crazy right now but I needed an SUV. Did I need the expensive one I got? No, but I sure do love it and money-managing spouse who makes double my salary said we can afford it. YOLO, I guess.

1.9% is very low, OP. Enjoy your car and make sure you do the required maintenance. I bought a 55k vehicle 12 years ago, paid it off in 5, and it is still a pleasure to own and going strong.

My spouse has had people contacting him from CA, WVA, IL, NY, etc. to get a Genesis because there are none in their state. CA didn't work out (too difficult logistically) but the last Genesis he sold (this past weekend) was to a couple from MS who DROVE to the dealership to get the car they ordered as it came off the truck. He tells his potential buyers you have to be willing to fire immediately on whatever car you are looking at because on some days there are up to three couples looking at / test driving the SAME car. Every has to wait in line... if the first buyer backs out it goes to potential buyer no 2 and so forth (this is also for Hyundais). Used cars are also a hot commodity as has been noted here.

NP. In the market for a new car and looking like our payment will be $500-$600 / month. With this shortage, am I better off leasing and then buying in a few years when supply is back to normal? I can’t stomach the thought of paying over MSRP and $600 for a car feels like… a lot. Looking for something around $40k with a $5k down payment.

By new, I think she means 2016, which is how far back you have to go to get an XLE AWD Highlander for $35k OTD.

I just did a search on DARCARS Bowie, where I bought my CRV, for used CRVs and Odysseys. Found several 2020, 2019 and 2018 used models in good condition in the $35-40 range. Some of them were at the Frederick or Silver Spring locations, but point is: you can find a good-quality used vehicle in the greater DC area for $35-40. No need to buy a new $60K vehicle and complain about it.
