No just a regular middle class African American girl from DC. It’s a dream and a stretch. Her counselor said that University of Miami is a likely whether she does ED or regular. I think she should just go for ED at Duke because I worry that we need financial aid and UM is not need blind.

Thanks PP above. That is what I'm encouraging her to do! You just never know. It is considered a reach but atleast she can get that rejection over with early and focus on other schools. I personally do not like Miami. I feel it is full of reach spoiled kids. Not sure she would fit in socially and not quite sure why she likes it. Notre Dame is another school she is thinking about for ED but Duke is really her dream school.

Maybe this should be its own thread, but I would love to hear how other families are working through the question of an ED to a 95% rejection rate school versus a more likely submission. If you get in on the latter, then you might be saying "what if" to the harder school. On the other hand, if you get into the "easier" one, you are done. And if you apply to the "harder" one and get denied, then you have to scramble ED2 or sweat RD to the "easier" one.
I think that would be a good new topic. Interested also about chances at ed1 vs ed2.
Someone should start a thread on the above. Dh and I wanted dd to do Ed for the "easier" school, she wanted to do Ed for the "harder" school. Ugh.
+1
