To sum it al up - basis is the perfect place for highly academic, excellent test taking, very very obedient children. Those children do wonderfully and the school loves them. Despite being under enrolled and having $$ difficulties, they will not bend on the items above especially around behavior or social emotional needs. For the parents who feel somewhat smug about it - I get it - I would have too - and I hope for all of you that you never hit a bump into the road or a mental health issue or take a bad test because you felt off one day, because there won’t be any support.

But my kids are doing much better than your kids in school. And I am much more successful than you because I can afford the tuition for two kids. This land gives everyone the opportunities to be successful but you the racial discriminator!

Agreed. Public schools have much more to offer for students with ADHD and are required to provide services and supports for these students for free. Private schools have no such requirement or expectation. When thinking about an ideal elementary school environment, your child sounds like he/she would benefit from a typical elementary program where students have a 'home base' and a classroom they spend the day in, are used to the environment, have a dedicated space for their things, etc. At BASIS, the elementary students have no classroom and move around throughout the gigantic building all day. That kind of routine (or lack there of) sounds like it might be pretty tough for your child. Also, I can't speak for other private schools, but at BASIS, if your child is deemed not a good fit, you will have to leave mid-school year and will still be expected/legally required to pay for the entire year of tuition.

PP from 22:06; I worked there. I am sure at least one other poster here also worked there based on the content.

Of course, many kids and parents are happy if they fit the BASIS mold. Anyone who doesn't will have a miserable time and likely leave. Hundreds of families have since the first school year ended.

Plenty of parents think that education is just one giant scorecard. The actual kids get overlooked for the sake of "what's best for them." BIM is perfect for them.

I happened to have had a DC who did quite well at the school. DC also fit the mold and we all saw first hand what happened to those who didn’t. I also know that the type of parents who want their kids to attend this school are very vocal and critical of having kids in the classroom who distract from the academic focus.

It’s not a criticism of the school to say that it caters to a specific type of child with the goal of intense focus on academic rigor. However, it could be very helpful for a family to understand and avoid considerable stress if the environment is not right for their kid. There were plenty of other threads (although the school had some removed) that shared experiences at the school and it is 100% impossible that they were written by one person, in fact many experiences were similar.

Reading DCUM the past few months through the application and acceptance discussions, it's fascinating how BIM wasn't mentioned hardly anywhere. If it's such a star, it's managed to keep that secret for seven academic years now.

BIM has a clear culture and curriculum that works for some kids and parents. But people who have worked and taught there know what happens to kids who don't fit in. You want to blame them for failing instead of focusing on the services and the support the school doesn't offer.

That's why kids who won't fit the BIM mold shouldn't go there. Thanks for proving the point.
