I disagree that it encourages lazy parenting, but heck yes on the subpar food part. Montgomery County's public school food program is awful. My kid is never there early enough for breakfast but their lunches are abysmal. And now he tells me you get chocolate milk every day with lunch and juice as desired in the classroom. WTF. They cut recess and sports to the bare minimum and think it's fine to load the kids up with sugar. And then wonder why so many kids have behavioral issues. I send lunch daily and he isn't old enough yet to realize he could dump it and sneak a school lunch, but I imagine that day is coming ...

Subject: what do you give kids for breakfast?
7 year old usually eats 1/2 a bagel and a handful of strawberries or blueberries.
10 year old is hungrier. He will often eat yogurt and fruit and then a bagel an hour or two later.
13 year old is not hungry in the morning and tends to get hungry for a first meal around 11am. He often makes himself cold cuts and cheese or reheats some dinner leftovers. (I’m going to tell him about the PP egg/rice/soy sauce because he would love it and he could make it himself).
Breakfast is generally up to them to get, I don’t prepare them stuff every morning. Pre Covid we enjoyed going out to breakfast on weekends where we could enjoy eggs and waffles and stuff. But that’s not an every day thing in my house.
