Subject: How to verify divorce in Virginia

I'd willing to pay a service if necessary.
And I am looking for actual divorce decree, not any other records like names on a home deed - I am still on the title of my XDH home even though we have been divorced for years, so I don't want inaccurate information.

You probably can see the divorce case # and names of the parties in the divorce, even if you can't see the divorce decree. Just go look on the case look-up for whatever county they lived in. They should be available on line. You can also go to the courthouse and look in the computer.

That's rude. Perhaps she failed to do her own background check and is kicking herself. Most of the checks that people have mentioned are free and take no more than a couple of minutes of searching. But they can save you a lifetime of heartache, financial ruin, or worse.
He’s actually from an UMC family that is prominent in this area. But they hide the skeletons really, really well. I never even thought to do a background check. I don’t know what his second XW did. I do know that there are a lot of women who he harmed who finally got some justice because of a prosecutor in PA who was less swayed by the family’s social ties here.

Not true - on the Supreme Court of Virginia site you can look by county and see a list of filings, outcome, etc. for divorce cases. Fairfax county is not included but you can see those on the courthouse computer. Anyone can go in.
Yep you can even obtain copies of records of complaints, motions, orders, proceedings etc. just look up parties name on the court terminal, obtain docket number and ask for file. Assuming there was litigation surrounding the divorce this is where you get the real info. In my belief the existence of an actual court file means run.
If you the parties couldn’t work it out without having to resort to the courts in this manner then the person has serious issues that you want no part of.

Yes it does. I can search my former married name and the county in https://casesearch.courts.state.md.us/casesearch/ and pull up our divorce case filing without needing to verify its my court record anywhere. Confirmed you can do it for anyone since I ran a friend and found her divorce record
Cool - found out the guy I’m seeing has actually been divorced twice instead of just once like he told me and is lying about his age.
How dumb are people to think this stuff will never come to light? I’m so tired of lies.
That happened to me in 2006. This is not new. It came up because a friend knew him from somewhere else. I did not go snooping though. Some people are jerks.
How is it snooping if the information is public and readily available online?
A divorce decree is NOT readily available online. An address is. Trying to get a decree is first-class snooping. It is not just knowing if somoene is divorced. Reading an actual decree? That is crazy and none of anyone's business except the parties getting a divorce.
Who is reading an actual decree? PP posted the link to the state of Maryland case search where you can literally enter a name and the information is right there. That’s not snooping. It’s using a basic search engine that is available online.
Only people with something to hide would be upset over this. I have nothing to hide. Hence, it wouldn’t faze me in the slightest if someone searched for me online. I would probably applaud their diligence. In 2021 it’s a good practice.
I have nothing to hide. I am a woman and think this is messed up. If someone does not believe me or doubts me, I have no interest in being in a relationship with them. Google my name for work or whatever but you don't need to search for a divorce decree. That is absurd.
They're saying that there's nothing wrong with searching that a divorce exists, not the details of the divorce. That's nobody's business.
I think if somebody divorced because they were beating their spouse or a serial cheater---that would be the business of anyone entering into a relationship with them IMO.
