Are you an under represented minority? I only ask because our DS with 1460 and 4.0/4.7 and great ECs only got $5 and we were frankly disappointed.

No, we are white. I can see why that would be disappointing. I’m guessing it’s a male vs female issue? Did your DS apply to engineering as well? I haven’t looked at the demographics but I imagine it is male dominated.


No, we did not. I think this is school specific though. For instance, our counselor said we need to complete the FAFSA to be considered for merit aid at Virginia Tech.

Curious — do you have to fill out any kind of financial need paperwork to be considered for merit award? DD is a junior, so just starting process but Pitt on list.

Also, Pitt has guaranteed admission programs for various graduate degrees, it is not too far from the DMV area (about 4 hours drive), gives good merit scholarship, and Pittsburgh is a very nice city.
