My daughter applied to one school in MO. And that was only because it was close to the IL state line (Stl burbs) There was a second one that we liked (NOT near STL), and even though it was right on the river, the part of IL it was close to was very rural.

Thankfully, her best fit was in MA.

If you just drive through UVA, it doesn't give the best impression. You have to walk around the Lawn area.

I was at UVA this week for orientation. Campus is beautiful.

My kid (OOS) adored UVA campus, and I thought it was quite beautiful. I see people on DCUM disparaging UVA; I can’t wrap my head around that.

DCUM just hates the insane UVA boosters. The school itself is fine.

You definitely are paying $$$$$$ for the view, but Northwestern U is one of the most beautiful universities we have ever visited.

The campus on the town side is gorgeous. Old, imposing, ivy covered stone buildings, beautiful landscape, expansive green space. Everything you think of when you picture a beautiful, traditional university.

But then, you get to the lakefront portion of the campus. Beachfront, running trails, grassy parks, and a million dollar view across the water of the Chicago skyline.

It was the only campus we visited where we could see why they were charging nearly 100K per year. The campus is just that nice.

You are from Tx but apparently never went there. I heard bad things about TTU and Lubbock, but the photos of TTU that I saw all looked nice. So a few months ago I was driving across the country & decided to take a look for myself.

The city is nice, no bad smell. Nice bars & restaurants adjacent to campus. The campus is very pretty, as nice as any large campus I’ve seen, and I’ve seen many. Beautiful architecture, nice landscaping etc. Just do a Google search & look at the photos if you don’t believe me.

It's bitterness because it is so difficult now to get into; it's relatively small compared to other flagships; and some parents (like us) are sad their kid isn't even a contender so there's no point in even applying. And sometimes the nasty comments are from students at rival schools: VT and UMD

And vice-versa.
