One was the whole thing with that older couple – it seemed like they were the ones that Rebecca had contacted about buying the house, but then they actually gave them the crockpot. That was really confusing.

Also, I am really confused about who is or isn't in the house… I just now went back and saw the scenes for next week, which I didn't see on the first watch, so I guess everyone was. For some reason I did not think that throughout the season so I have been very confused

Kevin isn't in the house. He's at a party in the woods with Sophie.

Kate also went to a party - I don't remember her coming home.

There was a scene of Kate lying in bed, so she was in the house.

The stock of the company that owns Crockpot went down a lot on Thursday, I suspect it's partly because of the show. The show was so dumb to use a name brand product to start the fire,'they could be sued. Didn't it say "crock pot" on the slow cooker?

Washington Post did an entire article about this too. I personally think that the fire should've been started by faulty wiring in the house, a curling iron, the dryer... really anything other than a crockpot. It's totally ridiculous- crockpots are very safe.

The old guy that gave them the crock pot in 1980 said that it had already been used to cook many family meals. Given his & his wife's apparent ages, that makes me think that the crock pot was probably supposed to have been from the 1950s or '60s. Maybe the ones from back then weren't as safe?

Nvm, thanks to the crock pot's twitter accoint, I just realized that I was misremembering what the old guy said. Apparently the crock pot was only 2 years old when he gave it to the Pearsons. What couple with no kids still at home buys a new crock pot???

What? Such a strange question! Crock pots are great for any sized family, even those without kids.

We obviously travel in different cooking circles ( & have very different thresholds for what is & is not eyeroll worthy).

Seriously dumb.

So unrealistic.

I am appalled at the fans who were piling on Crock Pot to defend the FICTIONAL faulty Crock Pot in the show. Wow. Some people really do think they live inside these TV shows.

Not to mention a Crock Pot that was over 20 years old in the 1990s. I'm guessing the safety and fire-prevention mechanisms have come a long way since then in Crock Pots and all kinds of appliances.

PP mention of the necklace + titanic was interesting! Weren't the dog tags from his brother? The brother seriously has to come back into the picture at some point.

I assumed the brother was KIA.

He was. When Jack took Randall to DC to visit Howard, they stopped at the Vietnam Memorial so Jack could pay his respects to his brother.

Whatever, I think it is fun to speculate because I love these characters.

Of course . Fanfictioning holiday schedules seems like a stretch, but it's a popular drama show about a family. Their mom married their dad's good friend after he died. Since he has kids too and his ex was friends with the mom it's not a stretch to wonder where his kids fit in and how the marriage may have affected them. It definitely hits home for those whose parents remarried someone with kids. Sometimes step-sibs get along as one big family and other times they have absolutely no relationship especially if they are older.

I don't get why some posters (who are themselves posting on thread devoted to discussing a fictional family!) find this so hard to grasp.

No one here finds that "hard to grasp." I think we're all invested in these characters. But the PPs trying to piece together who spends the holidays where and with whom, etc. are taking it a little too far. It's extremely odd to worry about the minutiae of a show like that.

It's even more odd that posters such as yourself can't just skip over posts like that & move on instead of writing pages & pages worth of posts about how odd/boring you find them. You've turned what was a few lines about a fictional families holiday plans into a 5 (or whatever) page long tangent about how odd some of you find those few lines!

Yes, some posters are focusing on the minutiae of a show a bit too much but you are focusing on the minitiae of a message board about a show WAY too much. If the former is odd, the latter is downright bizzarre.

I think Jack survives the fire. Kate is all emotional about dogs because hers died in the fire. Jack does some other way.

Me too! Very sweet of jack to clean up and turn it off, but ... maybe unplug it too next time!!

It was bittersweet to think of him lovingly sweeping and loading the dishwasher on his last night. (And all for nothing, because there would be nothing left anyway.)

I thought those scenes were beautifully filmed. Jack methodically cleaning up the kitchen, putting the food away, sweeping the floor. All the details. And then it all went up in flames. Very powerfully done.

This show was one of the very best, IMO. That scene you describe, and also the one with Kevin receiving his pendant back. In fact, Kevin makes me cry more than any of the others. There's something about him that is so, so sad. Plus, he's a really good actor.

One funny moment - loved it when Kevin and Randall were walking in slo-mo down the hall to fix up the building. Kevin rolling his eyes at Randall (rolling up his sleeves to show muscles) was hilarious.

Then Toby shows up unexpectedly. I think that was the episode she mentions watching with her “Dad” (meaning the urn of his ashes) to Toby.
Does anyone remember other details from that which make sense now after last night’s episode?

Yes, it hit me hard when I remembered the scene from Kate wanting to watch the Super Bowl by herself (and with Jack's urn). It's incredible to me how the writers must have plotted out this entire show, revealing key flashbacks and scenes early on, and then tying it all together so that everything fits.

Omg, yikes! Hadn't thought about that!

I'm so glad I have you guys... just finished the episode and feel torn up inside. the final scenes are heart breaking, seeing all of their memories in that home, and the song that was played during the montage. and how one PP mentioned Rebecca will probably think she caused the fire by not turning off the crock pot, sniff. Also glad Audio went home, he is too darn cute.

Jack's character makes me want to love again (I'm single....). He's gorgeous and so sweet.

Exactly. Those scenes of all the pictures burning, and the height marks on the molding... oh my goodness. To think that ALL of their baby and childhood pictures are lost... unbelievable not to have any tangible memories of an entire lifetime.
