Op here I kid you not I saw two cows riding in an auto car yesterday lol! I haven't been eating meat. An auto for those who don't know are small battery cars that don't have doors... Kind of like a golf cart
That must be so much fun for the cows riding in an auto - since there were 2 cows, I guess it was a share auto
OP here. Bengalis are amazing at carrying things. The amount of stuff they can put on a tricycle is unbelievable. We went to a doctors appointment and the doctor actually spends time with the patient. She didn't have a laptop open. They write all notes by hand and patients are given folders and it's the patients responsibility to bring back the folder for each appointment. We didn't fill out any paperwork before the appointment. I also went to get my eyeglass lenses done and it was $12 for the best lenses. The lenses will transition to sunglasses and will help protect against blue light. Perhaps due to the use of less technology people here feel more connected. My SIL has a great job working at a government bank and she only uses her laptop at work. She doesn't bring it home because she's not allowed and I think she doesn't want to work from home. She comes home for 2 hour lunch breaks. She had 6 months leave after her first pregnancy.
I truly fail to see the purpose of this post.
From one topic to the next meaninglessly on and on and on.
Op here. I am sorry you are so self-absorbed. 169 million Bangladeshi people are living in Bangladesh. You're essentially saying their lives are meaningless. Other people have expressed interest in learning the differences between their culture and US culture. My last post highlighted some negatives of using too much technology in medical settings. You find my posts meaningless but yet here you are spending your time reading them and then again spending time insulting me.

Why tricycles and not bicycles?

I don’t think that’s fair to OP. This is my first post but I’ve been reading with sk interest. She’s repeatedly said how nice the people are and how the pace of life is so much better and less competitive. She also seems to appreciate things like tailor made clothing, etc. But I don’t think it’s odd for her to comment on the relative lack of infrastructure and material stuff as compared with the US. 21st century Americans are insanely rich when it comes to material goods and technology. That’s why we account for such a large share of climate change. It’s very disorienting to go to a country that doesn’t have all that. My kids were even a little taken aback in Italy at their dinky little kitchens compared to an American kitchen and the fact that the apartment we rented didn’t have a dryer (washer only). That was bonkers to them. OP admitted she has not travelled a lot in lesser developed countries, so of course that’s a hard adjustment for her and it sounds like her husband is more amused than helpful with her culture shock.
Ha,
Most American apartments (not houses) don’t even have a washer! Now, that’s bonkers.
I’ve had a personal washer in every apartment I stayed at in the former USSR, no matter how small and old the apartment was.
Talk about shock!
That's because Russians are natural thieves and clothes left in a communal washing machine would be stolen. Meanwhile in France there are mini-laundromats right on the street so there is no need to have a private washing machine and dryer.

Yes, but some people will give it the San Francisco treatment, & say it’s only PARTS of Bangladesh that are crappy, & you must be a psycho Eurocentric white supremacist if you like the people preparing your food to wash their hands.

I guess you hadn’t heard of the internet twenty years ago then?
I did. I was a wide eye idealist who had just heard of micro finance and had decided to go to Bangladesh to visit the grameen bank. And I was no stranger to developing countries. But somehow landing in Bangladesh was overwhelming. I had intended to stay for a month and lasted a few days. Never again. Almost walked into a big street riot in Dhaka as a clueless kid while I was there too. I am surprised sometimes I haven’t ended up dead in a ditch somewhere in my youth.
