That's an interesting thought.
This is an interesting story. I don't know anyone involved. with that said, I offer the following:
BB went from a Tax Compliance Officer (TCO) to a Special Agent (SA) with IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS CI). BB was never a FBI Agent. Just want to repeat for clarity, BB was never a FBI Agent.
A TCO is a relatively lower level position that tops out pretty low on the GS scale. Lots of GS 15 talk on here. BB was likely a GS-12 or GS-13. He was (and maybe still is) a federal Leo (SA with IRS CI). If BB was ever higher than a GS-13, I'll eat my hat.
A SA with IRS CI includes a take home vehicle. If he was placed on admin leave, he would likely lose the take home vehicle. This may be why he may have purchased the Tesla.
There seems to be a lot of criticism about the law enforcements approach. The criticism implies that bc BB was Law Enforcement that he is receiving undue deference. I don't think this is the case. The investigators working this likely are very, very confident that they know who committed this crime. They are being meticulous in ensuring that they gather all the appropriate evidence to prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt. They have got there with the AP. They have been very, and appropriately careful, about any other charges they might bring.
IRS-CI issues its SA firearms. IRS-CI SA generally carry their firearms during their TOD.
Before coming here his public salary was under $69,000, was specified as matter of public record upthread, so that is a 12. Then he changed jobs and got an increase, for those speculating it went up over $150,000, not a chance. So as a PICU nurse, Christine may have made more?
My DH is a Fed SA with another agency and gets 25% extra "Law Enforcement Availability Pay" (LEAP). He's a 13 and almost hitting the cap. I would imagine an IRS SA would qualify for it as well.

I can't help but wonder if someone showed or told Christine about the photos, especially as she seemed to be well liked.
I don't know what grade IRS SA are hired into but it'd be whatever grade plus a few step increases X 1.25%. If assuming GS12, that would be approx 125k but that sounds optimistic perhaps? I think my DH started lower at his agency, but it was before I met him so I'm not really sure.

NP. The fact that JP only featured once on CB IG does not signify anything in and of itself. It seems that their previous AP was especially close to CB and the current one was not on the same level. But Peres must have done an alright job and not raised any suspicion in CB to have extended for a 2nd year.
In this age of social media there are some ethics which some abide by especially when it comes to posting other people on one's IG or FB account. Maybe CB asked and had permission to do so from previous AP but not the one currently under arrest?
Good Lord, the au pair had multiple IG's herself. She mentions her one time. They did not seem close is the point. The fact that she was f&cking Brendan Banfield and putting THAT all over HER OWN IG may have played a part in her relationship with his WIFE, even subliminally.

According to news reports, Peres Magalhaes has been seen caring for the Banfield's child but it is "unclear whether she was still working in her capacity as an au pair".
Thanks to all who shared, both those familiar with the au pair program, visa requirements and neighbors which clarified that she was apparently finishing her second year caring for the Banfield child. None of the previous au pairs had rematched, maybe circumstantial, but it's striking that Juliana was only mentioned once on Christine's IG, unlike prior, and not pictured. Wonder how soon the affair started?
Even if they never had an au pair, Brendan would still be someone capable of this. It is chilling. He just looks like a middle aged dad who is putting on a few pounds, although seems thinner in FOB snap. Ordinary. Not like a monster.
