The extreme secrecy around family courts permits them to operate to protect abusers, and there needs to be accountability and balance. In this case there is no way to remove the child from public knowledge. Ignoring what happens to her now is not giving her privacy. Continued placement with Tess, who appears to have erased child’s mother, denied contact with her family, and conducted a smear campaign against her son’s victims is not in the best interest of the child. She needs to be with safe adults who love her and will provide the extensive therapeutic support she needs.

Generally, family court reform is badly needed. The fox is in charge of the henhouse and think about every organization or system you know that works this way. Secrecy and lack of outside accountability always leads to bad outcomes.

How do people know so much about where custody stands?

I also don't think the victim's parents need to wage a public fight to see their granddaughter or have a fair hearing on custody.

She lived in the house immediately following the murders. She knew about the affair, that Juliana moved into the master bedroom immediately, where Christine was killed, and that the daughter was calling her mommy. You don’t think that’s off or behaving poorly? She also did not allow the other grandparents or former Au pair to visit the child. All in the name of protecting her murderer son because of what the granddaughter may say to others. Disgusting.

DP here but as much as I hate Tess for her comments, I wonder if what truly happened is that she believed her son’s story. If she did, she probably thought CB was a cheater and Juliana saved her son from being killed by JR. Remember how BB said in one of the letters “Everyone will see you’re a hero” to Juliana?

And regarding her seeing their relationship?Same plot BB was telling the CW. It’s easier to fall in love w someone that saved your life and takes care of your daughter. That’s probably how she saw all of that. Plus, Juliana was working the entire time after what happened (She was even one of the sitters I was considering for my baby at the time). She was actively working, helping around the house (BB mentioned her helping remodel the bathroom). That’s probably why Tess was behaving like that.
We haven’t seen evidences of her talking about snitches with Juliana. I’m sure the CW would have brought that to the trial if there was any. That may be hearsay.

We don’t know these people. All we know is that BB is a murderer, a cheater, a disgraceful human being. For Tess, he’s her son. She saw him being born, grow up… It’s hard to see your son like that. You’d believe everything and everyone else before seeing the truth.

Paying for Juliana’s defense and threatening her in prison? I would consider that be behaving poorly. There’s evidence one page back from one of the hearings of the threat she made to Juliana. I can only hope this wasn’t brought up during the trial because they’re going to go after her.

He’s a retired postal worker who was there for every single day supporting his son. It’s hard to say what we each would do in the same situation. Perhaps he really didn’t believe his son could’ve been capable of this.

i agree that bbs father and stepmother get more ire than is appropriate. There’s no indication that they acted inappropriately. I’d extend this sentiment to big momma’s partner. i’m not aware of credible information indicating big momma’s partner acted bad.

Or maybe they can try to not splash the child across the headlines any further. If sole physical and legal custody is granted to BBs mom then sure, gloves off and do anything it takes. But that hasn’t happened yet, and I think a large chunk of the public thinks it’s slimy to put a child in the spotlight and start publicly slandering the one person left in that house who has been caring for her- the child is old enough to read the news now. Is it in her best interests to read how her one grandma thinks her other grandma is a lying piece of S** who thinks her mother was a W***? They should do everything in their power to fight for her, hard, but privately and while trying to let her keep the small amount of dignity and privacy she has left after this horrific ordeal.

And I understand that Tess is the one person left who takes care of her solely because Brendan wouldn’t allow Christine’s family to have access to her. I’m not arguing that Tess is the good guy here. But it doesn’t matter who the good guy is for this one fact to be true- the only caretaker that the child has left, out of the people she has real memories of (given how young she was when this happened), is Tess and I guess Tess’s mother. Her mom is gone, her dad is gone, her au pair who she had been told is her new mother is gone. Her maternal grandparents and her old au pair are, in her mind, probably also gone because she hasn’t been allowed any access to them from what I’ve read here. So the child’s best interests need to stay at the forefront, even if she hopefully does eventually live with her maternal grandparents

Agree with others that this was a great interview. I was always struck by Joe’s friend or friends’ comments about him on here. It looks like a case of a decent, thoughtful, intelligent, eccentric mom raised a son who turned out a lot like her. It’s so incredibly unfair that people like him and Christine ever encountered a psychopath like Brenden in the first place.

Also, well done, CW and Fairfax police. It was touching when Joe’s mom talked about the police chief referring to the “two” victims of the murder from the very beginning.

I'm not a lawyer, but from my personal experiences with other people, he will be sent to a max, or a medium to max (depending on the wings/buildings) at least initially. As he develops his prison record he will be transferred to a medium building/wing with non-violent prisoners (not that his crime was non-violent, but his behavior in prison). At no point will they allow a 2x times convicted murderer to be in a minimum center.

Probably shouldn’t ask this but… does anyone know to which prison(s) BB is likely to be sent to, max-security, and what the general conditions for inmates prevail there? Not being myself in favor of the death penalty I often think a convict may be worse off facing a lifetime amidst the “general population”.

She or Brandon posted on this very forum I believe "Deirdre put down the crack pipe" Deirdre is Joe's mother. The was intentional pointed harassment of a mother that brutally lost her son. Who else would have done this along with many other posts here and online done anonymously in a negative and often untrue way about Joe, or even Christine. It just doesnt make logical sense that anyone not the two of them that would go after Joe, and his mother. Also who the heck would speak about Christine accept those two. She clearly had no past history of going outside her marriage for casual sex and least of all violent sex. Tess is responsible for her actions online, both open behavior and also covertly.

People have said here that Tess also called/sent notes to JM basically threatening her not to flip. "Snitches need stitches." Did this actually happen? Evidence?
